Default New OEM Shocks now?

The shocks on my '93 SC400 are deteriorating. After speaking to my Japanese mechanic about replacing them, perhaps w/ aftermarket shocks (considering Tokicos), he responded that he much prefered KYBs but if I was looking for a comfortable ride, it would be better just to replace them with OEM shocks (a lot cheaper too).
Now I've searched and have listened to many stating their opinions and am really at a loss right now. Should I just purchase the new OEMs? I was told Tokicos are even softer than OEMs. Input please!

If you are reusing the OEM springs and can get new OEM shocks cheaper than the aftermarket alternatives, I would absolutely go with the OEM shocks. The ride quality will be very good with the OEM springs.

If it is not, you can absolutely blame the bushings because new shocks should have your ride be practically glassy over pot holes.

I can't imagine OE being cheaper than some KYB GR-2's...

but yah, I agree with Blizzy...

get whichever is cheaper. You can't go wrong with Tokico, KYB, or OEMs. If you do, make sure you get brand new spring insulators/boots as those are severely deteriorated by now.

I glanced over at the huge catalog he was looking through and it said about $99.XX per shock. Does that sound right?

i asked a lexus dealer for a price quote for 4 shocks + 4 springs a while back, the total retail came out to be around $1400....

my thoughts exactly.... without looking, 99 / shock sounds more like a KYB shock price....
