It looks like this topic has been covered pretty heavily in the last few months. It seems like this is pretty common replacement part with some of our older GS's getting up around the 150,000 mile mark (169,000 for me).
Just wanted to let everyone know that I just got a call back from a guy at Carson Toyota (Lewis or Luis I believe), and they were very quick to call me back by the way
Anyway, they ordered quite a few of the ball joints as a result of all of the discussions on this forum. And they have them in stock right now for $61.00 That's the best price I have seen around. Just wanted to let everyone know.

I guess now would be a good time to get them... I said this before a while ago....that i think this would be a good group buy item.... I know we could probably get a least a dozen members to order these...

Carson Toyota: $61.00+shipping, Labor...? it shouldn't be more than $50.00-$75.00 each side.
And you don't need Dealer to do it, most auto shops will do it, no problem...
I say DIY and save money, 2 hours at the most

When I took my GS to Custom Alignment last month to do my wheel alignment , they found that at 128,00 miles I had pretty worn ball joints. They recommended replacement before going any further on the alignment. They sent their guy over to the Lexus dealer for the parts, (about $80/side or $160 total) Then charged me 2 hrs of shop time for the labor to install. Then proceeded with the needed alignment. These guys are meticulous. They even replicate the driver's effect on the car by putting free weights equal to your weight in the driver's seat when setting the car up on the rack.Originally Posted by e-man

does the rear have ball joints or bushings? Cause I think I need rear bushings but mechanics telling me I need rear control arms!

Nope, no ball joints in the rear. They're part of the steering linkage, so since the rear wheels don't turn from side to side for steering, no need for ball joints back there. The rear wheels have double wishbone suspension so there are two lower and two uper bushings on each side. Lexus doesn't sell the bushing as a separate part, just wants to sell you the whole control arm with the bushings already pressed in. The control arms are steel castings with no wear at all except for the bushings. If you get the Daizen bushings you use your original control arms and change the bushings out.Originally Posted by Black Ice
