Default Tein CS ?

I know that GS300Rich and a few others had a small problem with Tein CS in which the top bolt on shock was not tight enough from the factory and caused damage to shock upper.

My question is can I tighten this nut before the shock is installed on car or does it have to be tightened once mounted. I'm assuming there is a groove on the shaft that you can put a wrench on to hold it secure while tightening nut. Is this the case?
Thanks
Chuck

There is a slot on the top of the piston for a 10mm open end wrench I believe. The only problem is there is no load on the shock so the piston will want to turn very easily. Once there is a load on it, it is easier to tighten. In the CS manual it calls for a torque spec, but I was unable to torque it down because the shaft kept turning. It is kind of a pain to tighten. I just keep and eye on mine and I haven't has another one come loose.

Hey Chuck,

I was told that the bolt is not torqued down from the factory. Once the coilover is installed they need to torque that bolt down. I guess when I had the CS re-installed they didnt do this to one of my coilovers and it cost me $445 to get it fixed
