Default Ball joint question

ill be putting on my shock/springs combo sometime in the next few weeks, but last time i did that my ball joints went out in the front.

Should i just replace the entire control arm assembly or just replace the joint itself? Im not too sure what parts ill need, was it a costly fix?

thanks, i have to gather the specific parts for my mechanic, i dont want to have him charge me for stuff i didn't need replacing.

Ball joints are cheap, it's the control arms that are a monster. I'll be doing this same install very shortly. My boy did this and said that you don't have to seperate anything as long as you pre assemble your replacements. I know that may require some new parts...strut mounts etc. But worth it to me in the long run...plus aren't you supposed to replace those anyway?

I dont understand? So you pop the ball joints out to put in the shocks/springs? All you have to do is turn the wheel and you will have enough space....

if i remember correctly.. the ball joints r cheaper than the control arms but... the labor on installing the control arms is much cheaper and in the end inmy case was cheaper by about $60 $510 vs $450
