The Life Of Springs
i know most of us can agree that shocks will wear out and need to be replaced, but do springs ever wear out? I'm curious because my car has 110000 miles and i'm ready for a new set of shocks, but i'm wondering how my springs are holding out. i'm planning to keep the oem springs and get bilstein hd shocks to keep oem ride and height.
also does anyone have this setup with the oem springs and bilstein hd's? can anyone comment on the ride quality/comfort compared to oem?
thanks!

Springs will sag over time. If you drive solo most of the time, you'll probably find that the driver's side of the car is lower than the passenger side. If so, and you're going to continue to drive mainly solo, you can swap the driver's side and passenger side for the cheapest fix.

most likely then i'm gonna just pop in the bilstein hd's and keep the oem springs.
has anyone here ever rode in a gs with oem springs and the bilstein hd's?
also what's a good suspension shop in southern california, preferably orange county area? what's also a good price for just front/rear shocks install?
thanks!

I have to disagree. Springs DO fatigue over time, there is no question about it. Of course, it will vary from car to car depending upon the roads and manner that the car is driven, but, they will fatigue. (visually noticed as 'sag')

well i decided to stay with the stock springs and purchase the bilstein HD's. i placed my order from autozone. they are the only retailer i could find (both online and stores) that has the rears for our cars at the cheapest price. everywhere wants like 200+ each for the rears. autozone has them for like 179.99 each. i'll be getting them next week and hopefully installed by next weekend. after that, i'm gonna need new tires as my worn oem shocks made my tires flutter. have anyone here tried Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S tires? they look good for the price and the reviews on them are excellent on tirerack!

yea, i installed the hd's back around may/june time. they feel great with oem springs. you get a near oem ride with better handling without having to worry about lowering problems. the only thing is, if you are riding on bad roads, you will feel the bumps. but on good roads, it's very smooth.

Thank you. I do ride on bad roads daily so the ride quality is important to me. Just going from 16 to 17 inch wheels with the stock suspension degraded the ride so much that I hate going over big bumps. I'm hoping my stock shocks are shot - I just ordered the L-tuned shocks and springs and will let you know what I think.
