Default Tires are wearing on inside of my 98 GS400

Purchased this refresh kit and installed it about a year and a half ago.

Didn't even realize it's already been 4 years since I started fiddling with this vehicle, but I only put 8k miles on it. (Car has 198k now)

So here's my dilemma, I have (had) 4 new tires put on at the beginning of last year, and the front driver and rear passenger side are almost bald. There's some feathering on the rear passenger tire and it's just annoying the hell out of me because I don't know what to do first.
It 100% needs an alignment, so that will be done, but I'm not sure if I need new shocks, struts or just get an entire assembly.

I did my research here and everyone says to go with KYB, but I can't find an entire KYB shock & strut assembly, other people say just to replace the struts and keep the stock/oem shocks as they're fine in most cases.

So I don't know what to do first... work on the suspension and try to figure out why it's wearing out my tires so badly? Or should I get that alignment first?

Fix the problems, then get an alignment. Unless the problem is just your alignment, in which case just get an alignment.

A good alignment shop will inspect your suspension and recommend any repairs or part replacement needed. Now the trick is finding a good alignment shop nearby.

well for starters if you put 4 new tires on your car but didn't get an alignment when those tires were installed that's problem number one. Always get an alignment after getting new tires. Completely blown struts/shocks can definitely cause some uneven tire wear in different ways (GS300 is a heavy car) so it doesn't take much under it's own weight with bad struts/shocks, you can usually press on each corner of the car and if it's very easy to push down (look up some youtube vids) then that's an easy way to tell and/or if they're leaking and you can see it. KYB is solid but if you intend to go with coilovers at some point i'd just save for some decent coilovers but if your shocks are absolutely done then get some stock replacements until you can upgrade later. If I were you get an alignment and make sure they give you the current specs so you can see if the alignment is really bad, if so then cool you know the alignment being off was more than likely the cause.

You take the car to an alignment shop and they will let you know whether any alignment specs are outside of range.

My lowered GS430 needed adjustable upper control arms to get the caster/camber within spec and a rear camber kit to get the rear camber within spec. Before that I was destroying tires in just a few thousand miles since the specs were maxed out and out of range.

The alignment shop should be able to tell you what specifically is out of spec leading to the tire wear pattern you see.
