I have two suggestions. I go to other forums that when you look at the headers of all the threads, at the end is has a "First new post" link. When you click on this it knows when you last visited the site and brings to the point where you last read the thread. This is very handy on long, multiple page threads when you don't remember how far along you were. Example of this is at www.hometheaterforum.com

Another feature from another forum is when you hang your cursor over a thread, a box appears showing you the first couple sentences of the thread. It is very handy when a thread title is cryptic and you are not sure if you want to read the whole thing.
