Default Peeling steering wheel

hey guys. So I've been reading this forum for months before finally buying a 2008 LS460. Love it! One thing that does irritate me is the outer most layer of "clear coat" on the steering wheel is peeling away in a couple places. Just checking to see if anyone else has seen this and what they did to fix, before I attempt anything. Thanks for any feedback.

Mine was covered by the dealer, they replaced the whole wheel but not the center horn part. Hopefully you have an extended warranty .

Extended warranties usually don't cover interior and cosmetic issues.

Guess they must have covered it under the certified pre owned then.

Steering wheel clear coat has a couple of bubbles (approx 3-4mm) that got bigger over time.
I asked my SA if Lexus would repair or replace the steering wheel. Answer was "NO - it's cosmetic".

These guys down in Texas recover/refinish them. If you look through their gallery, they have done Lexuses before. The downside is that you have to send it to them.

Nice find. Any idea what they charge? The only other option would be to order a replacement on Ebay.

Yeah. I'm not able to remove ship and wait for it to be repaired. I may try to sand and polish to blend that areas that have peeled. Anyone ever tried this? Thoughts?

Have you tried going to an upholstery shop specializing in leather to see if it can be repaired/refinished?

I don't know what the place in Texas charges. All of the upholstery shops that I've ever talked to about recovering or fixing the leather on the steering wheel told me they don't do steering wheels cause it's too easy to screw it up.
