Do you have to re-learn the navigation screen if you buy used?
Hi, I have a 2016 GS350 F sport with the Mark Levinson package and 12.3 inch screen. Unfortunately my factory screen melted. More specifically the polarized film has melted and no longer visible. I know the screen still works because if I use polarized sunglasses the image can be seen, without it, all you see is white.
I'm going to replace it with part number 83290-30240. According to lexuspartsnow it will fit my vehicle using the VIN. Has anyone replaced their screen and had to re-learn, re-sync, or otherwise have a procedure to doing this?
East, I got a good deal online for a used one in good condition. I weighed the option of having the screen sent to NYradio for repair, and at the same time, repair the ML amplifier, but the opportunity presented itself and I went with getting a used screen. I might try to repair the old one while this new one is in place and use it as a spare.
One thing that strikes me as odd. I just measured my screen for my 2018, and it's ~12.3". But your image shows an 8" display? Or maybe it's calling out that the navigation section is only 8"?
Amayama lists that part number (83290-30240) as a 12.3", and the Korea spec as 83290-30260. Either way, it looks like the part number should fit.
I did see this guy https://www.ebay.com/itm/358226552426 which lists as shipping free to Guam. It does mention it might require programming (and maybe that is where your question came from).
I did come across that ebay item but can't remember if that's what brought it to my attention.
I would hope that the screen is a simple plug and play procedure, but I'll defer that answer to the experts until it gets here. It will take a couple weeks to get here... I took a closer look at the factory unit and could see slight discoloration (almost like water damage) behind the melted polarized film, I suspect the lcd layer has heat damage as well so a replacement might be the better option. I thought I remember reading the upgraded screen (12.3" from 8") was only in the 2016's and up. Whereas, the 8" was in the 2015 models and below. I could be wrong. Here's a question, are there different screens for Mark Levinson packages, or are all the 12.3 inch screens compatible.

It is odd, and I might be missing it. Nowhere on Amayama does it say 12.3" outside of the diagram. The part on the diagram comes up as "GRL12, GWL10 Pioneer, EMV & NAVIGATION SYSTEM - 8" DISPLAY 10.2015-03.2017". Personally, I think the ML sound system sounds great. I know there are some deep, deep articles that the audiophiles like to dig into. My only complaint is the Lexus software for navigating through the systems. Eventually, I would like to get CarPlay with all the features on the wheel and complete compatibility for video play.
To answer this thread question. No, you do not need to relearn the navigation screen. It was a simple plug-and-play. Here are the photos of the new screen installed.
