Well yesterday had the first mishap with the vehicle. Was sitting in a line of stopped traffic on one of the busy streets here and got a sudden bump in the rear. I guess the guy in the GMC truck behind me took his foot off the brake or something. Result is some scrapes and a couple of small gouges on the bumper. If this were a painted bumper I am sure one of those mobile bumper restoration guys could easily fix but not sure if the same could be done for the unpainted black bumper. In any case the guy was insured so we'll see what happens.

I was hit in the car wash and the bumper and lower piece was replaced at Lexus for 1k
The major Lexus dealer near me does not have a dedicated boty shop but the AAA approved/recommended shops include one nearby that I have used in the past. I was googling various Lexus parts sources and it looks like that bottom black piece is about $250 so also expect total to be in the 1K neighborhood. I will be dropping it off this afternoon.
Get the police report and submit claim to this guy's insurance company. Your insurance company will not even know about it.
I had the same collision 6 years ago. The other insurance company just paid body shop for a new bumper. My insurance company was not even aware.

It was so minor and we only quickly exchanged information--there was no police report. So I did go ahead and file with my insurance company and gave them the other insureds info and dropped the car at the local body shop yesterday. Estimate came in at just under $700 for replacing the bumper cover and the car will be ready for pick-up tomorrow.
For anyone that has replaced the cover, how hard was it?
I have a feeling it is not a big deal since the collision shop is not charging that much for the total part(s) plus labor. But the guy did say they had to remove the trim pieces on the inside of the luggage area to gain access to whatever is holding the cover on. Also there apparently is some calibration of the sensors in the rear.
The job itself looks like it would be pretty easy. But what the shop also needed to do was to have some "dynamic calibration" done for the rear parking sensors as well a "seat weight calibration" that added another $475 to the total. The guy at the collision place (Caliber Collision) said that these calibrations were required(??) by Lexus and they were sublet. Sounds weird to me but I did get a bunch of automated texts from Lexus stating a detected malfunction in the intelligent Clearance Sonar System while the car was being worked on. Apparently you need to unhook or fiddle with the sensors while doing this simple repair and that triggers some malfunction which then needs to be recalibrated. Whatever. At least the entire job plus the rental car was completely covered by the other insurance company.

Yup not made up at all. You would not believe the amount of tech hidden beneath a rear bumper these days, thousands of dollars worth! There's blind spot detection sensors on left and right sides, and a whole bunch of parking aid sensors, and liftgate motion sensors. And while thankfully none of these were damaged, they all still need to be confirmed are still calibrated to manufacturers specifications before Lexus or your insurer will sign off on the repair being complete and a warranty for work provided. The blindspot monitor sensor alone lists for $900 (CDN) each theres a left and right side.
