Default Hid question

So I'm sure there is a post already about this but I still don't know how to work this website and suck at it when it comes to searching.

Anyways what is the best hid kit to install in the fogs that will match the 5k in the oem hid projectors.

OEM D4S bulbs are 4300k unless you swapped them for a 5k alternative.

IMO, I'd leave the fogs alone. HIDs just in reflector housings not designed for them just emit some god awful glare for other drivers, they also put wayyyy too much light out directly in front of you, hurting your ability to see light farther out (which could mean the difference between hitting or missing that random deer at night). Maybe find a whiter halogen bulb (e.g. Silverstar/Silverstar Ultra, CrystalVision, etc). If you had an 11+ IS, you could swap out the OEM fog housing with a pair of OEM LED fog housings or an aftermarket alternative (TRS's Morimoto LED fogs come to mind).

If you're adamant about ignoring what I said about the glare and reducing your distance vision, really any old HID kit will work. Spending more for a quality aftermarket alternative (TheRetrofitSource, XenonDepot, etc) vs your ebay special is always advised, but they are just fogs, soooo the cheap kits will work... I went through this phase with my last car, and TBH, I ended up being happier with the halogens after dumping the HIDs... although I did end up swapping them out for some LED housings from TRS. I'd still leave them halogen IMO.

I will be putting in 5k bulbs in the headlights shortly. Well I live in So Cal so thankfully we don't have deer running around our streets. Maybe a coyote from time to time but I see what you mean.

If you just want them to match your headlights, look into 5K LED 9004 bulbs. That's the easiest solution.

I went with Morimotos fogs lights, , excellent high quality upgrade, glass lenses, they match the OEM HID projectors and fits perfectly, easy install w/ plug and play.
$170 at Amazon, 5K color bulbs...looks great., super nice at night!
Morimotos is top of the line product for lighting.

I went LED and couldnt be happier. I've had them on the car for 4 years with no issues. Plus they are very cost effective and are super bright!

Finding a matching OEM color is the million dollar question..

I went with vled 5k led bulbs and they're close but a tad bit off it's definitely frustrating

i guess you could always buy a OEM ballast with OEM bulbs but that'll be pricey!

let me know if you find a solution 😊

Everyone has their preference, but I'll never put HID's in the fog housings ever again.. I had 3000K yellow fogs and the light is just blaring with no sense of direction since its not in a projector housing.. I slapped on a yellow overlay and went back to a stock bulb because it looked stupid (witht the HID's).. some HID kits are brighter then others though so to each his own..

I've had good experience with Xenon Depot kits though.. http://www.xenondepot.com/
