Default Back-up camera question?

I rarely drive the 2011 RX350 in my household, however I noticed tonight that the back-up camera do not have any parking lines nor is it perfectly center on the tail gate so it cuts off the left side of the car when parking.

I do have the front/rear senors that helps guide the car when parking however the reverse camera sucks.

I also noticed that my reverse camera sucks in dark areas, unless I need to adjust the camera brightness or something.

In comparison my 2014 KIA Optima SXL have a nicer reverse camera with guide lines and decent night images.

What gives?

Is my camera just faulty or do I need to adjust the camera some how to get decent night images and maybe guide lines if possible.

FYI, I had a 2008 GS 430 Lexus back-up into an older car I owned a while ago when parked and for the life of me could not understand how he did it because the GS had a reverse camera(no sensors), now I know.

Nothing wrong with your camera. Lexus got those on clearance at Walmart.

The camera image quality is pretty bad but it's good enough to get by. I think the skewed to right camera is more for seeing more when backing out of a spot, I also find it very useful to fit perfectly in parallel parking by driveway spots. I have switched my reverse lights out to LED, hoping that they would illuminate more for better image quality but I seems minimal if any.

LOL.

I have changed out the back-up bulbs for some very bright white LED bulbs but the camera still seem a bit dark or like it is covered up slightly so the camera has a shady-like image.

Maybe I should try to brighten the camera setting.

My old Infiniti FX45 had a "secret" menu that allow the dealer to change the camera brightness/contrast, so I will look to find if Lexus has a similar hidden menu for camera settings.

Good news for anyone that wants to try to adjust the back-up camera and other items i found a link to accessing a hidden diagnostic menu for a 2007 Lexus IS.

I will try the trick when I leave work this morning or after i take a quick nap, long night tonight.

FYI, it may be possible to access guide lines according to the thread since the guidelines are adjustable on the IS it seem through the menu options.

Ok. I got the service menu to work on my 2011 RX350.

However, the camera setting is grayed out.

Now I will have to dig deeper and see if I can unlock it.

I got the service menu to pop-up with the car in accessory mode and when the engine is running by holding down the menu button on the mouse controller and at the same time turning the light switch from the bottom(drl off) up to the top setting back and forth about three times until the service menu pop up.

2013 RX added Display Audio for non Nav builds. While not standard it became the
de facto customary configuration for nearly all Central Area RX's. Beside the 7" dash
display color Back Up camera it also included HD AM/FM, digital Amplifier with Surround
Sound and Siri Eyes Free. Minor take away was the 6 disc changer became a single disc.

Same specs also for the 2013 ES, new body design at the time.

Well I looked around and it seems that Lexus/Toyota have locked the camera settings from owners since many have been using the camera test to allow the camera to play even when driving.

However, i have found a simple fix for my dark camera images(display image overall) by just pressing the display button when allows quick access to brightness and contrast. LOL

My display was set very dark by the previous owner, now I got the camera/display looking the way i like it.

Unfortunately I will not be able to add camera guide-lines it seem, but I guess it is for the best since the camera is aimed more to the right anyway.

Good news is that I was able to increase the phone Bluetooth volume in service menu so I do not have to keep adjusting the radio volume when making/receiving a hands-free call.

Siri was added for '14, not '13.

Default Rear Camera

Does anyone else hate where the rear camera is located? I have towed a small cargo trailer a few times with my 2015 RX350 F-sport and where the camera is located it does not line up directly over the hitch. It is actually to the right and its a pain and hard to get use to. I'm honestly very disappointing with the camera all the way around it just sucks.

You'll find lots of rear camera posts and opinions in this forum, both pro and con.

The location doesn't bother me, but IMO Lexus could have done a lot better with the camera. But it's good enough for the amount of time I use it.
