Default Somewhat disappointed in RX backup camera

My last RX didn't have this feature but our GX does. Big difference in the two. I was at least expecting a color image. It would be nice to have the guidelines too. I think I'll look into having a better camera installed. Any thoughts?

I still love my new RX though.

When I park with the blue handicap logo just behind the car, the color is very apparent.
I don't think there's a black & white camera left in the world.
I think you are seeing the dark gray of typical parking lot pavement. Throw something bright red on the ground behind your car, and you will see the color.
Not having lines seems like a big boo-boo. My friend's CR-V has lines that even bend when she turns the wheel when backing. We like our RX too, in spite of the camera's shortcomings.
I'd love to have some kind of warning light on the back of the car facing left and right that's activated when I'm in reverse for backing out of parking places in malls. Nobody stops anymore.

In some dark, low contrast situations it may look B&W. Just try it during the day ... should be color.

USDM does not have parking lines. Only EU (and JDM?) does. No idea why.

Wife's car has the two sets of lines, I like them. With the off-center camera on the RX the lines would be helpful. Maybe that's why the RX doesn't have the guidelines. Lexus engineers couldn't get it to work with off-center camera.

I just drove our other car with the backup camera. If not for the two lines, it looks like it is gray. But the two lines are definitely in color.

2014 and it's in color, no back up lines.

What year did the back-up camera become standard on the dash display vs. rear view mirror?

Looking for a used and trying to decide which year to start from.

Thanks.

I believe that the back-up camera displays on the dash if you have Nav otherwise it's on the rearview mirror. I have a 2010.

^^ Thanks for the reply. I forgot to add without the navigation system. The 2014 has it on the dash without navigation. Was that the first year that option was available?
