Well I ran into this issue when I first did my retro and a few years later on my stock headlights as well. Fogging on stock headlights never makes sense since koito used tons of sealant to seal the headlights. So the problem isnt the actual seal between the front lens and the headlights. You'd be amazed to hear the problem is very tiny and the fix is even more easy .

Here is what the problem is, the plastic see through cap. The O ring used around the plastic cover goes bad and lets water in the headlights. If you look closely you can see water marks right next to it. Since that little rectangle bit acts like a bucket. Every time it rains water gathers up in there and slowly makes its way inside the headlight.




take off the two screws.



and take the cover off and you will see this, the cover and the rubber O ring.








Notice the channel where the rubber O ring sits in.

 

This is what you will need, an automotive adhesive or any other sort of sealant, the idea is to seal the rubber O ring and the cap to the channel to avoid any moisture from getting in.




It may look like goop but it does wonders .



put the rubber ring back on the cover, make sure you wash both before doing so to rid all the dirt on both.



gently put the cover back on, dont press it, let the screws gradually guide the cap/rubber into place.






Notice the adhesive ozzing out from the side, if you see that then you know that you made a good seal .





This method has helped me many at times, I am sure you guys can benefit from it as well.

Also note that some 2GS headlights come with a rectangular cover rather than the oval one shown above. Lexus seemed to have rectified the problem with the rectangular covers because some of them come pre-glued .

 

I have condensation in my driver side lights but if it doesnt rain for about 2 weeks it dries up..so if they dry up and I re-glue this plastic cover and o-ring the condensation might stop? what is the cover used for anyway? excuse my lack of knowledge lol

 

^^ Those are the exact symptoms of the O ring going bad. The see through cover is there so you can look through it at the level attached to the low beam bowl and properly adjust the low beam in reference to the level.

 

Thanks for the fix, I just noticed a tiny bit of condensation in one of mine for the first time last night and it would have driven me crazy if I hadn't read this thread a few days ago. I'll have to deal with this later today.

 

i have have a retro done on my 2nd gen gs and when i wash the car or when it rains i get condensation in the upper chrome area only the drivers light i hope this works.

 

I thought there were vent holes in the back of the headlight housing with a rubber 'j' hose?
water vapor can enter through this and condense on the headlight housing also.

I don't know that it's the final fix for sure, I never did mine since I ended up doing a retro. I think it would a good spot to start, try this out first and hopefully it works.

 

I'll give it a shot. Wanted to dry out the insides first but it keeps raining here. Where about in MN are you Kyle?
