Default speakers - or stereo upgrade

Hi, ive been debating the repair of speakers vs change. When i see youube videos, it looks like it is easy to break the clips that attach the door. As far as replacement, OEM speakers can be had for a few hundred dollars.

I need advice for someone who is a novice (Im not a wrenching female), as to whether or not to just buy the OEM ones. Also, is there a very detailed step by step - i mean way more detailed than what i see on some posts.

Im worried about doing this alone, but i feel that with the distorsion, i need to do it. I would love advice on upgrading the stereo also, to a more modern one with bluetooth. Just need some encouragement. Thanks

If your OEM speakers are shot you have several options to follow. Upgrade your speakers which can be tricky due to the Ohms the OEM speakers run at with the ML system. Option two is go full out custom with head unit replacement with speakers and amp. It will depend on your budget and your DIY skills which will save you some $$$ on installation costs. Either way its a big decision and a big job as most of the interior panels will need to come off. Good Luck.

There are OEM new speakers available on ebay, the question is whether or not thats the better way to go, then repair.

Buyer beware! I've been shopping on Ebay for decades and have been burned buying counterfeit OEM parts. OEM means very little to sellers. True Toyota/Lexus OEM can only be purchased new through a dealer. Some legit dealers sell on Ebay, but most don't. Sellers will lie sometimes and say they are a Toyota/Lexus dealer when they are not. Look for a dealer with a legit Toyota/Lexus web site, even when buying through Ebay.
