Question CD player compatable

I made (ripped) a CD of my favourite beats in order to test the range of the ML system on my SC430 today. I put it in the player and it said error and would not read the music.

I was using a CD-RW.

I took the CD home and it played fine on my Sony home DVD player which means it had no defect.

This is my question:

Does the SC430 CD player play CD-RWs?

Does the SC430 CD player play CD-Rs?

Any insight would be great.

Thanks, Nick

Well I have certainly used CD-R's in my SC430 with no problem.

I awould be very surprised if CD-RW's worked though.

You did burn it as music files and not mp3's?

CD-R's work in mine - never a bad one. CD-RW's can be picky about whose player they'll play in. I tried one Sony CD-RW and it didn't work, but a TDK did work. I don't use them anymore because they're so unreliable in players that didn't record the original.

Most Stereos systems only support CD-R's.... CD-RW's are really for data back-up for computers only. I only know of one stereo system that will suport the use of a CD-RW playing music. Plus CD-R's are much cheaper to buy than CD-Rw's.

Is there a CD-R brand that you would recommend over others?

Cheers, Nick

I second the motion re: TDK's. I seemed to have the best experience with them.

Default Verbatim CD-R

An update on the CD-R and CD-RW issue:

I burned some Verbatim CD-Rs which worked and sounded great on the Mark Levinson. None of the CD-RWs I tried from various manufacturers worked.

Cheers, Nick

I've had the same experience...all CD-Rs work fine in my CD player but none of the CD-RWs have worked, although I have only tried Sony and HP brand CD-RWs. However, today the price of CD-Rs is soo dirt cheap that it really doesn't make sense to go through the process of erasing a CD-RW just to burn a new CD. I really never buy CD-RWs anymore.

Help!!! I have a 2005 SC430. Have error 3 on DVD. Will not load, eject, or play cds. In slot 1 does not show and cannot eject cd but if press load it shows and flashes "wait" then error 3. The door to cd will not open on eject. I feel like it is stuck between load and eject on slot 1. Now I can not get any of the disc to play and each slot the "error 3 " msg appears. Is there any way to get it to release and play or eject disc?

From what I have read, no. The dealership has an exchange pay option providing you do not break the seal on the backside of the ML head unit. They will swap out your old unit for a refurbished (like new) head unit. My understanding, this is not cheap. A remanufactured ML head unit and exchange at the dealership will run you approximately $700 with a one year warranty.

I say try the old method that has worked for alot of us here on the forum...hit the side of the console...lol. As barbaric as it may sound,it's worked in most cases. Pick a spot on the side of console (passenger side is easier) about middle point of the radio & give it a firm smack. This will usually free up any stuck cd's, then you can reload them & shouldn't have a problem. If it works, it'll save you lots of money...good luck

I recently purchased a 2004 RX330. After loading 1 CD into the player it jammed with the Error 3 Message. I took it to the Lexus Dealership and they said that it needed to be replaced and would cost $1000 (including labor) to fix. So I decided to see if there were some alternatives that would work instead. A week later I was backing the car up a steep drive-way and the CD popped out! After reading the forums I decided to make sure not to load a burned CD but an original. It worked! I'm still leary of trying to load multiple ones yet.

...hopefully you won't have anymore issues. If you read through this thread & others dealing with the same issue, most of the cd's that jammed had an adhesive label on them. The hit on the dash, near the radio, seems to pop them out the majority of the time....so enjoy your cd's...lol
