Thanks for this information. I did it last night and cycled the top a few times and it made a difference. This will become part of my routine maintenance from now on. Thanks again.

🤣 OK. Let me be the fly in the ointment. Do you know how to lubricate the two cables that go to the single motor for the package tray?

What lube are you supposed to use? I have Spray Lithium Grease, but it usually leaves white blobs when I use it to lubricate sun roof rails. I also just got a tube Honda Shin-Etsu grease which is supposedly the best grease to do window tracks but I haven't tested yet.

The Shin-Etsu will serve you well. It is designed for your rubber components. The white lithium is great for any moving, metal mechanical parts. i.e. gears and chains. But being sprayed from a can will likely have it going places you never intended. And it is deliberately thinner because it is applied under pressure. I use it for the chain on my Motorcycle. Silicone is special. It should not be used on electrical connections. That's what Dielectric grease is for. But for the gears of the top, one "could" use wheel bearing grease. Or, you could use the manufacturers recommended types of lubricants. What is most important is that the gears be kept clean and lightly lubricated. That's all. You could use butter or even Vaseline if you wanted to do the job once a week. The shearing forces of the gears themselves are minimal. Most damage is done at the hinge points by dirt getting into the lubricant.

But I do have another question. You keep referring to the convertible top as the "Sun Roof". To me, a "Sunroof" is a completely different animal. Are we still confusing terminology here? Thanks.

I meant I've used the lithium grease for sunroof rails on my other cars. I haven't tried to lubricate anything on the sc yet.
