I know it is in the shop already but I found this today…it makes sense to check the condition and operation of the throttle body plate.
if it is really dirty it can stop the plate from opening.
like someone else said, this is very rare.

The P1128 means that the drive by wire throttle body has been stuck or is locked up. With the key off you should be able to remove the intake boot and take your fingers and push the throttle plate open, if you cannot this means the throttle plate or motor is stuck with either carbon or the mechanism has locked itself. Remove the battery cable or clear the codes with the code reader and see if they will clear before you attempt to start the car.

Hopefully you will get lucky and it’s something simple, keep your fingers crossed. Did you happen to check your air filter at some point? A rodent could easily get in there and make a cozy nest. Regardless you’re SC is worth the restoration and possible upgrades, especially what you paid for it. Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks.

Sadly, it was not carbon or the throttle plate being stuck. The electric motor was going bad, as it had more resistance that it's supposed to. So, new throttle body for me. Also, my transmission speed sensor was faulty, causing the VSC system to go haywire. Well, what are you going to do? Getting it all fixed. I'll buy the shop manuals I found on eBay for the car for the next issue when it comes.

Cosmetic yes, but it also provides some sound insulation and helps keep the components underneath it clean and dry. With these Toyota V8's, I'm always concerned with crap accumulating in the space under the intake manifold.

The dealer service guy said they had a nickname for those plastic engine covers, but I already forgot what it was.

In any case, I ended up taking it to my in town dealership and they fixed it quickly. So back to enjoying this mild weather and this really neat little car.

Resistance in the old throttle motor had built up over the years to trigger the engine code, so that motor needed to be replaced. It's not sold separate from the throttle body, so they had the whole unit replaced. In addition to that they found a transmission leak at the speed sensor from what it sounds like and they fixed that as well. It drives great again and fingers crossed, no more electronics will go bad for a while.

That's great news. Sounds like BGW nailed it again or at least came really close. Glad that you are back on the road again.
