Angry check engine light, vsc lights on with loss of power

2003 Lexus GS 300 with 75k miles. I got the check engine light at the same time as the vsc and vsc off lights. Still able to drive with full power. Pep Boys told me the code read P0171. After unplugging the terminal from the battery and pluggin it back, all 3 lights are gone, but the car has less power now. When I drive it, it doesn't have full power. Can anyone help please? Thank you very much.

did you disconnect the battery right after they scanned it? i'm assuming pep boys cleared the code, therefore it has nothing to do with the battery being disconnected. the lights will come back on after a drive cycle

ok here is your freebie.....

take the P0171 code and go to the advanced search, narrow it down to the 2nd gen gs section and go from there. you will have to do some reading.

i will get you started on a few i skimmed i think have the best info on them

Default loss power, CLE, VSC lights on

took it to pepboys and they told me I had a clogged catalyct convertor, they will order the part on Monday. I drove it home on sunday since the parts store was closed. The car had full power and acceleration was good. Why is it good now? Do I still have to order the part and fix it?

If he was a moderator... JK

I'd advise you replace the Cats anyways. Weird that it isn't boggy now... GL.

I read the links you have provided and more...now my eyes hurt. =) Thanks for all the help. Car drives well. In the meantime, I will continue to drive it daily and see what happens. I decided not to change the CAT for now. GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

A clogged CAT can not cause a lean condition. Since it's only one bank, check for vaccum leaks or a bad a/f sensor.
