Default UPDATE w/conclusion: Can Nav be updated 07 SC430?

Yesterday I was going to a friend's house that was built a year ago and the Nav. wouldn't allow me to put in his address.
I started typing the word and them the screen ran out of choices and only highlighted letters it felt my next choice should be.
I don't own one of those computer things I hear spoken of on this site often that I guess can be used to get into the ECU of the car.
Is there maybe a disc or something I can buy for updates or????

Thanks Ron

Sorry to say, the last disc update is from 2015. Lexus does not support updates for our system past that date.

Forget about SC NAV system. It’s outdated and screen resolution is like an Atari computer. Use your phone instead. Up-to-date map, live traffics, speed and police warning and much more.

So I found disks on ebay that say they will update but like someone said it's from 2015-16. If I was to buy that I assume it would be placed into that slot in the trunk to do the updating?

Ron

That is correct however you are operating with 2015 map data. Nice to have the last update but does not do much for you. I and my son both have but we do not use the Nav.

I sometime use my wife's phone because I don't want to stop and input the car's nav. I have been down one lane roads. Been on roads with no center lines. I have been taken way out of a direct route. Cell phones suck. Just updated my '04 gen 2/3 13.1 version original factory disk $89.99 on eBay.
l believe your '07 is gen 4. Get the latest version, I think it is 15.1. check to make sure. Don't get a copy, they are horrible. They are made with the wrong Lazer color and work part time.

Not sure why you say that. I bought a copy in 2017 for my 06 and it has worked without issues since. Also, not sure what you mean by wrong laser color. they are all red. the color of the disc does not matter.

I don’t know what kind of phone you have but my IPhone map is amazing. Beside of over speed warning, road congestion warning and reroute, now it even shows routes in the parking lot. This is extremely helpful when you are looking for stores in the large shopping complex. They also added the traffic light symbol to intersection that reduce the chances of missing the turns. You also have a choice of choosing various navigation maps i.e. Waze. Google map or IPhone map or others.

My experience is cheap discs for my LS and SC. I've had three cheapies, tried to save some money. I was scammed and suckered screwed three times. If it isn't factory disc don't buy it. In my research I read the factory uses a different color laser to burn the disc as opposed to the burners commonly available to the public. I tried burning a disc from a factory disc. I got the same results as the cheap discs. The cheap nav discs typically can't be found by the reader. I have to turn off the ignition and try again. Works about half the time. Try to input a destination it can't find the data base or just locks up. Not having any problems with the factory discs. Our phones are using Google maps. Our phones are android and that is probably the the source of the problem. I guess I need an I phone.

You guys are missing the OP's statement and situation. He can't use his cell for guidance. (See his first remark above.) So yes, purchase a Lexus/Toyota map disc for the generation 4 NAV but do make sure that it is OEM, copies have been known to have problems.

Regarding the installation, yes, the slot in the trunk is for the NAV DVD. Just replace the old DVD that is in there. You might check the disc that is in there first before buying another one though to make sure that it isn't already the latest version.

Just curious, now that you know what you can and cannot do, what will be your resolution to locate your friends house, since the car NAV is too old?

it’s always nice to know the end of the story, which may help others resolve a similar issue.
thanks ;-)

Sounds to me like the solution is get a friend that has lived in the same house for a while. then we don't need so much technology.
