Sat nav messsage
Hi I,ve recently bought a 2001 SC430 with 87000 miles. Really well looked after but I can,t get the sat nav to work. display says Unable to read data Check if map DVD is correct. I,ve seen there a lot of threads and have bought a used ecu, which I was told was in working order. Came with a DVD. I installed it but no difference. The car did come with an original DVD, and I also bought an aftermarket update. None of them work. I made sure the replacement was exactly the same model, so I,m stumped. Could it be the Antenna, would that bring up the same message? Hope someone can help thanks

if so, then the units have power.
if both units give you the same message, you may have two bad NAV DVD players.
Just an FYI .....the 2002 SC430 was originally factory equipped with a GEN 2/3 DVD player/unit. Several years ago now, many of us here are the forum upgraded our GENeration 2/3 units to GEN 4 as it was just a straight swap out and an improvement over the GEN 2/3 units.
Lexus no longer updates the DVD maps for either units. It’s been awhile now too. I believe, off the top of my dementia prone head, 2013 was the last year update for the Gen 2/3 units and 2015 for Gen 4. If that’s not correct someone will chime in.
Obviously you need the correct DVD for the unit you have in your car, unfortunately the only way to tell which unit you have is by the player part number or the disc part number (if someone didn’t mix them up). Getting the part number off the player means disassembly of the trunk garnish, worked you way from the trunk latch area back to the DVD player. ( There are previous threads with the PDF instructions attached you can find using the search tool. ) see this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...av-update.html
Regarding the GPS antenna which is located under the dash.... It seems to me getting a DTC or diagnostic trouble code verification would be way to go before tearing apart the center console to get to the passive GPS antenna. This thread post #3 https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...ntenna-is.html

Thanks for the replies and advice. I've already got to the player in the boot so if it's a straight swap for generation 4 I think I'll get hold of one and hopefully that will work.

Well I feel foolish. .... I failed to notice your UK location so the info I posted really doesn’t apply. It is for North American models of the SC430. There are different parts for the European models and different DVD maps disks too. https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu

The aerial is an easy fix. There is a TSB on replacing it in the sticky threads at the top of the forum. You can usually find a suitable replacement on eBay. But you’ll need two people. One to press the buttons on the radio, and the to grab the antenna Ariel as its ejected. Then just reverse to put the new aerial in.
Further to my original post, does anyone know if the 2nd generation satnav can be replaced with 4th generation in the uk? If so, is it a straightforward plug and play?
