Default Replacing nav screen with tablet?

I was wondering if anyone ever replaced their navigation screen with a tablet? It looks like one would fit.

I just don't want to lose that space if I rip out the entire stereo system.

Google is another search engine trick I use... always start with “club lexus SC430” then the subject.
here is an example...then go back and modify the subject words based on what google finds...Google’s AI seems to know what you want, LoL
let us know how it goes or post something in one of the threads you find.

I had replaced my nav screen with a tablet. It worked great, BUT... the tablet wasn't quite built for car use, and after a few SoCal summer months, its battery started swelling up to the point where it pushed the tablet shell completely apart. I'm glad it didn't fully explode! I have since replaced it with a Raspberry Pi w/touchscreen, and that seems to work flawlessly (there's no battery involved).

I removed everything from the metal tray that the original nav screen/system sat in. I built a wooden sub-structure in it that gave me the correct angle/distance to where the new screen needed to sit. I screwed a bamboo Raspberry Pi screen case onto that, and that was pretty much it. The whole contraption fits perfectly and tightly into the cavity, but without the plastic trim that was around it before. Of course there is no more tilt or cover ability with this method. But it looks very clean.
Electronically, the audio out goes into my Pioneer's aux, and I wired one of the Pi's GPIO inputs to a relay that's connected to the lights/dim signal, so Android Auto (the Pi runs Crankshaft) automatically dims the screen. The usb cable comes out on a Kuda base, and connects to my phone using a Fix2Car holder.

Do you have a link for the model you bought?

I really like what this person did. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...k-monitor.html

I don't think I want it for a stereo I'm thinking that if it handles a backup camera, I should be able to feed a Beatsonic video interface into it and run a pioneer down below. That way I could have 2 screens plus up to date navigation and a rear view camera. Or it would be nice to play a DVD on the upper monitor and navigate with Android Auto or Apple Car Play.

I'm going to look for a model that will support a sim card and will fit. That way I can use a data sim in the car too.. That way I could use Google maps live and get my traffic updates.

It was the one linked below. Works like a charm for Android Auto, but it won't fit using the existing plastic frame.

You probably won't even need the beatsonic interface, since this unit most likely takes a standard backup camera. You only need the beatsonic if you are feeding to the factory display.

Can you tell us more about the above link? It is intriguing. It is a Display with Rasberry PI built in, right? Rasberry PI is a computer processor you can load an OS and apps onto?

Where the link above is a complete radio system, this would be something you would use to program your own Radio/NAV app, or turn your car into K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider?

Am I over thinking it, or am I under thinking it?

Well I just discovered the CD player has died on my car. I'll try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and see if that fixes, but considering all the speakers need to be repaired I guess I should just consider replacing it with a Pioneer. I think I should be able to use the existing amp in the Pioneer and use the existing wiring that was coming from the amp. Maybe there would even be enough space to hide some small speakers under the dash for the Android radio so that I could here instructions from navigation, or use an auxiliary input to feed the Androids sound to the Pioneer.
