Default Control arm installation: source of clunking?

I’ve been chasing a front end clunking noise and the Lexus dealer just sent me this pic of the control arm I had installed 3 months ago. Would this misalignment cause noise? And, is it a safety issue to temporarily drive on it as is?

It doesn't look like you are going to get any answers. I know I wouldn't want to tell you it is safe to drive and then it not be safe to drive.

In the absence of any other input, I think you are going to have to go with what the dealer says.

I found your old post from three months ago. The extra info might help people make a guess on your problem: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...front-end.html

I just reread that original post. I bet it is the improperly installed LCA that is making the noise. The mechanic used aftermarket equipment. I’m not sure how it could have been installed so that it would look the way it does. I’m not even going back to the guy because I think he’ll screw it up again. I’ll bite the bullet and have the dealer do it over 🙁🙁. Here’s two more pics.

😬

That's the (lower) ball-joint. You should try to test first. See here how to do some basic tests before letting the dealer re-doing the work. If you are handy, it's pretty easy to replace and the part (Moog K series & made in Japan by 555) is not that expensive.

If there is a left and right part number your "tech" may have put them in backwards. (It can happen - I once saw unidirectional tires mounted backwards on a MB SL600)

It's good to know MOOG continues to source/make good parts because that is what my parts guy recommends. (He deals with a lot of racers so he would lose business if he recommended dogs.)

If that is a nipple one can pack that fitting with silicone grease annually. Check with a competent tech. Good luck.
