Is there a Difference?
At sixteen yrs old, that car has about 2500 miles per year on it. If it's, as my dad would say, a cream puff, I'd have no problem paying a bit more as long as a mechanic checked it out. If it's mechanically sound and looks pristine, and you like the color combo, no harm in offering a bit lower and see if you can negotiate. If it's down to 13.5 & you REALLY want it (or should I say your DW really wants it, as you mentioned it would be primarily for her), I'd offer 12-13 and grab it. Even if at $13.5 if he doesn't budge.
My mom is 94 and recently stopped driving. But her 07 Infinity G35 will be one of those cream puffs when she decides to sell it. Never drove it hard, always maintained & put on less than 2K mi yearly. It has more miles than that on it now because I've borrowed it, but my point is sometimes, cream puffs do exist & it's great when you find them. Good luck!

My thought were that if I could get it for 10 maybe 11k then with it needing a new TB and WP plus spark plugs and I am not sure about tires that I would be in the 13-14K range. It is red which I hate but the DW loves. 50th wedding anniversary coming up in less than 2 weeks, thinking 2 carats would get me off the hook and it is not red!
JTho yes I know about cream puffs. Someone in Kansas City bought my now 87 year old friends 2010 AWD LS 460 with 32-33K on the clock earlier this year for 24.5. So yes they are out there.

If this SC is clean, I would even buy it for 13.5K
and let my wife take it.
For about 15K with new T/B, tires etc, you can’t even
get a slightly used Toyota Camry these days.
The SC with 40-50K in mileage is barely broken in
check to see if all the Vin stickers are on the car
to see it was ever repainted. Get the car!

Pretty sure it has never been wrecked or repainted. However how many VIN stickers should I be looking for other than the one on the top of the dash by the windshield?

go buy the car. That price for an 02 with 40K is a steal
Just check the vin stickers. It should be on all doors
hood, trunk and fenders.
if you are not sure, go pay for a preinspection at Lexus.
This car is going to sell fast. If I liked Red , I would even
buy the car.
I just replaced my tail lights and got my SC tinted.
These cars are amazing and as mentioned, at 40K
you got many more years of enjoyment.
I know the car you are talking about as I saw the ad.
I would not wait. For a few thousand more or less
you could miss out on this SC.
Dont look at getting a used used car because it is
cheap and you can’t pass up . Buy a clean one
and to me it doesn’t matter what it cost
if it was wrecked or repainted. The car will never
look the same ..

i guess I will be waiting until you make the purchase unless you want to share it privately(two SC430s are enough for me)...by the way, my wife’s favorite color car is red!
and that is what she has...they always get what they want in the end!!!
they are the master manipulators, LoL
in a fun kind of way...
I think the 2 carat thing would work out better. Just pay for it and be done with it one time. No Taxes, No Insurance, No Maintenance, No Depreciation, No walking by it sitting in the garage while my Pristine 1990 Ford Bronco II is now sitting outside thinking I HATE RED!

We were born and raised about 120 miles south west of Omaha. My sister just moved down here from Omaha about a month ago as she was tired of the Nebraska winters. My oldest son will have his first Colonoscopy next year which means he will be turning 50 in April. I had my 5th on Friday. Our youngest son who called me about 2 years ago and said he was putting in his retirement paperwork (does that make you feel old) after 22 years on the job will be 47 in March. He now is the Executive Director of a 915 bed 33 acre assisted living complex with it's own zip code. By chance were you stationed at Offet AFB? The youngest is the one I found the 2005 SC 430 for.
