Default AC evaporator drain

I think my AC evaporator drain may be clogged/blocked.

Search produced no threads on where the drain hose is or how to clean/clear.

Anyone know?

hey JC, check out this thread...I haven’t used the product I purchased but I think it will work like the Toyota brand...based on the reviews.

Thanks, that was helpful. My issue is not smell, but rather clog/blockage. In that thread you referenced, Mister Blister speaks of the drain tube being near the firewall. Hopefully, he'll check in with a more specific location. Step one will be to find the drain tube!

are you completely blocked or not sure?

i thought the first thread I provided had a video, if not here is another one. It too is about cleaning the system but they provide a great tip to locate the drain tube if it is not completely clogged.
turn the AC on cold for a few minutes and look for the wet spot under the car...it helps to have it on ramps or a lift. Anyway find the source of the water and you have located the drain tube. If you are completely clogged you could do this another way.

remove the cabin air filter and try to snake a semi rigid piece of wire or something similar into the drain tube. They are usually pretty straight but not always.
just use gentle pressure.

The hose is near the firewall on the battery side of the engine compartment. You can for sure go through the air filter cavity and can use a wire tie or semi rigid wire to gain access . I did it through the drain hose years ago so I am a bit fuzzy on exactly where it was.

I took some pics this morning when I stopped to do an errand.
if you zoom in, you can see the water on the Lower Control Arm #2 bushing. The drain tube is right above that bushing.

Looking straight down, engine cover is on the right and the battery and inner fender on the left. The drain hose is attached to the inner fender.

So JC, what led you to the conclusion that it was clogged?

Hi I drove my 2007 SC430 for a drive today after having it in the garage for a while, it was a hot day and had the air con on. Parked up at the local beach and went for an ice cream when I walked back I noticed a lot of liquid under the car, opened up the bonnet and noticed as in "the pictures above water dripping from the a/c drain hose" it seems a lot. Is this normal as I have not had the vehicle for long, do other SC 430 have this amount of water after parking up?

It's normal especially in humid areas - next to waters, etc.

I had an issue with funky oders when using the AC, and knew about the evaporator core cleaner, but had not tried it. I found this thread a month ago and attempted to order the Toyota product seen in the video posted above. Instead, the Ebay seller sent me a similar kit, that worked with a modification to the end of the dispensing tube. It took a little bit of time to locate the drain tube. I knew it was about even with the back of the front/right wheel, so jacked up the car and started looking around, from underneath, from the firewall back. Found one small drain tube, but knew that wasn't it. Then, I looked in front of the firewall from above and saw where it exited (below the battery). After that, it was easy to locate from underneath the car.

I never thought the drain was blocked. I've noticed the AC smell in many different makes/models over the years, but could usually control it by using the recirc mode sparingly and always turning off the AC 1/2 mile before my destination to give the system time to dry out. I've even switched to heat to help it dry. After doing this for a while, most of my vehicles no longer smelled, with the exception of my SC430!

The kit worked well, even though it wasn't the Toyota kit. I'm still getting a slight odor when I first switch the AC on or off, so I'll likely do it again in the future. Next time I won't buy the kit, as I don't need the can of air freshener or the dispenser hose (it's re-useable). This time when I shop for the evaporator cleaner (only), I'll simply buy the cheapest brand. They are likely all made by the same manufacturer and then sold under different labels.

Let us know how your cleaning turns out!
