Default Black or Gray headlight mod?

Im in the process of doing the clear lens mod to the low beam projector and adding projectors where the high beam is. What do you guys think of the gray,? Trying to get the color close to the front grill inners.

Wanted something different.

After tuning the SC projector really came to life.

I like the gray But how will it affect total light output? Since the light “wells” are mirrored chrome light is reflected and affects the total light output. Will a non reflective surface make a difference, or is it insignificant?
Other than that, the work is very impressive so far.

Thanks Bob! The only thing the paint "could" affect is maybe the turn signal a bit at an extreme angle but I am not too concerned. The turn signal will remain halogen however the parking light will be changes to an LED that is similar in Kelvin to the HID lights. with the additional projectors the light output of the quad headlights will be superior. I have been taking pics and will do a thread when I am completed, just wanted to get opinions on the color before I put it all together.

Initially I was going to paint the same color as the car but I think it would be too much silver.

I too like the gray!

when you do the thread, will you explain how you removed the clear lense. Also, Are your plastic lenses cloudy?
my 2002 lenses are cloudy and have small splinter cracks from the Florida heat.

Yes, i will. Mine were a little cloudy. I used a high speed wheel and made paste out of baking soda and a little white vinegar (compound). Polished them then waxed, came out nice.

Here the lights are finished. I deleted the front chrome too with exception of the emblem that I may remove.

Thanks. It’s dropped 1.2” on Vogtland springs.I added adjustable front UCA and rear camber kit to fix the negative camber tire wear issue. Have staggered 20’s going on soon.

I need to disconnect the headlight auto leveling links on the suspension and dial the low beams in manually to match the new projectors, the auto level has them set too low.

here are some shots in the mean time, i have lowered the beams since but all need fine tuning. Crazy output, the clear lenses on the SC430 projectors really make them shine.

Looks great! Awesome work! Really wish you had done a DIY on the headlight dismount and dissamble/baking process. I've been really trying to take the next steps to open my headlights but don't have the experience. Would have loved a walkthrough while you were on this mission. Results are sweet!

Thank you! Actually, I did take a bunch of pictures throughout the process. The only thing I didn’t include was prying the light apart after baking because it can be very tedious and you need to hands. I baked them at 270° for 10 minutes and used a Five in one, flat tool, To pry them apart. It’s not really difficult. As soon as I have some time go I will write up a DIY

Yes Sir. Remove rear perimeter screws and bake at 270 for 10 mins. I have a piece of plywood i use in the oven to sit the light on. Gently pry it apart as to not to deform the light housing. Make whatever modification you’re going to make inside and then re-seal it with black butyl tape before putting it back together. Bake for another 10 mins and press back together and install screws.
