Default Navigation System - Final Discs?

As some of you know I was indisposed for a period of time dealing with some health issues.

So it’s been some time since I last updated my Navigation Disc. So after doing some searching I found our NAV systems updates are no longer being produced by Lexus. The exception is the 2010 year model. So here is the info I found. If anyone knows of newer information please chime in.

The third column is the generation of the NAV DVD player (2002-2004* = GEN 2/3) (2005-2009 = GEN 4).
*UNLESS YOU MODIFIED YOUR CAR’s NAVIGATION PLAYER from GEN 2/3 to GEN 4

Since the 2010 system is completely different, and apparently still subject to updates, I did not post the information on it.

When I purchased an update for my 06 last year the most recent available was 2015. So, I believe you info is correct.

I don't use my NAV at all, not even for the phone. It's totally a waste for the DVD screen. I wonder if I can turn it into something useful like a photos viewer, or even just to display the Lexus Logo. Any thought or idea?

Agreed the phone NAV is vastly superior, especially WAZE with crowd sourcing of police locations, traffic jams, etc.

But one thing to keep in mind before you junk the car's NAV......the car's navigation works with GPS only since all the map data/logic is in the trunk. I have been unpleasantly surprised how quickly a smart phone data signal can be lost once you leave the main highway, at least in the south where I travel a lot. On more than one occasion, I have been saved by going old school with the car NAV.

JohnnyCake, I have to second your sentiment. A few months ago, we took a trip along the southern border from LA to Texas and lost cellular reception regularly along the small byways we stopped at. Our 06 Nav system was slow, but worked like a charm. Glad we had it - several times!

Options are an aftermarket radio head that can run on the bottom screen.

with the beat Sonics input you can illegally play dvds while driving on the top screen.

I have programmed the top factory nav to a different destination than the lower unit and have also explored alternate routes at the same time the iPhone is using its map program or waze on the lower screen.

both units can give voice guidance at the same time if the volume is on both.

the lack of signal results has been posted already.

Wonder if I can use the second input of the Naviks ? ( the first was used for backup cam). I want to retain the OEM ML and don't want to watch DVD or movies while I'm driving. Just want to do something useful with the NAV screen.

I use the dvds for the best possible sound quality on the ML system. With the Beat Sonics installation and no parking brake on/off input with a specific set of steps you can play dvds on both screens at the same time, the pioneer thinks the nav screen is a rear seat unit.

when you turn off the car then restart it the top nav screen turns back to the dvd playing in the pioneer,

the puoneer does not come back on to the dvd.

the pioneer has the ability to use digital media instead of a dvd. You could record a large list of music or spoken word and accompany the list with any visual source you would like to see playing.

I do not watch movies. Only music dvds for their sound quality.

The sound retrieval adjustment in the pioneer head really woke up the ML system. Restored the full bandwidth on the audio sources.

Yup, just as I suspected. I guess I’ll just admire the wood of the closed upper door and leave it at that.
Many thanks from Hawaii.
