Default Trunk constantly opens by itself???

Greetings all,

i picked up an ‘02 with 32k on it a few months back. Its just sitting in the garage until i have time to go through everything in the Spring time, Timing belt/water pump, fluids, belt, filters, brakes, etc.

i have noticed that since i have gotten the car that i often find the trunk popped. At first I assumed that it auto popped when detecting a battery with low voltage but i have since fully charged it and have it on a tender. The key fobs are sitting in a drawer and arent manipulated.

Anyone have any ideas on this one? When I closed the drivers door yesterday I heard the trunk pop. Weird

Check your latch to see if it is tight or loose

If that not, wiring issues like loose connector or short?

I'm guessing that this is a mechanical issue not an electrical one.

There is a manual trunk release cable in the bottom of your glove compartment under a little panel, it has a green handle. Maybe someone used that to open the trunk and it did not retract back into the locked position.

Also make sure the glow-in-the-dark level inside the trunk (driver side) is in the "UP" position.

Wait ! What actuator? How do you open the trunk then? There were two incidents on this forum with exact symptom: the trunk popped open by itself. I can’t remember what were the causes.
