What are the two straps for that are located inside the trunk near the glow-in-the-dark pull handle?

Warning reflector storage belt. Page 256 in the owners manual. I think it's a European standard thing. US models don't actually get the reflector.

I located and purchased an emergency triangle to fill this void.

Having a reflector probably isn't a bad idea. I've been tempted to cut my straps off since they typically come out of the clips when I access my wheel lock-key under the carpet.
