Here is the information we have been looking for. The receiver is in the Rear View Mirror
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...ansmitter.html

Any chance you have anything hanging off your mirror Shawn that might be blocking the signal?

Nothing handing off the mirror, but thank you for this linked thread! It confirms what Retroplay has told me previously when he altered his mirror LED. He believed that the mirror houses the antenna for the system. So this is something I might try to start troubleshooting. I see two "eyes" on the mirror; one on the front, one on the rear. Anyone know to what system these might be related?

Any chance that Retroplay has pictures of the interior of the mirror?

So there are some photos posted in the linked thread, but I can't really identify which is the antenna or even what point/where I'd like to solder an extension wire. Anyone got any ideas? Post 74. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...led-mod-5.html

I do not know. I do not know AT ALL, but I think this looks like an antenna wire. The one the green arrow is pointing too.

I was wondering about that also DashingDar. There is a good chance that the SMD pointed out in red is the likely antenna but I'd need a much closer look at it. The gray wire (green arrow) I thought might be one at first but I suspect that could be carrying power to some components in the front assembly, but once again I'd need to have a closer look and see where all that goes. For 418MHz it would be about 18" but for 315MHz it would be closer to 24" if it is a wire type antenna. Both are definitely possibilities though.

I think the SMD is just a light. I took the picture off the post on how to change the SMD's color. I could be wrong.

Here is a picture of the circuit board still in the housing. Take a look at the gray wire. It is white in this picture, but it really looks like it could be an antenna wire that runs the length of the mirror for maximum reception

I agree. It might be more obvious though if that bottom assembly were removed (or even more so if I had it in my hands). The part number is there, in case anyone has access to the drawings.

This must be contagious. What I've found is that it takes several seconds between an open sequence and a close sequence for the remotes to work.

Unfortunately, couldn't find anything helpful (However, I did find an awesome post by Habious et all on adding a cell phone to the car to allow LuxLink operation from a smart phone). Two caveats, I do have an aftermarket switchblade key which works perfectly as a physical key. The electronic guts from the OEM blade key snaps right into place of this switchblade key. Therefore, the electronic guts of the key has not been altered in any way. Secondly, I have a LuxLink installed. In any case, my problem has gotten worse and I can see a few possible reasons off the bat that I have tried to troubleshoot.
1) Key battery is low- replaced the battery, no change in short distance
2) The aftermarket key is the culprit- pulled out my extra OEM key, replaced the battery with a fresh new one to the OEM key- same problem, short distance
3) Hardware in the car is failing- I do not know the location of the sensor/antenna (I was told it was in the rearview mirror)- I cleaned the sensors on the front and rear of the mirror. No change in short distance.
4) Luxlink is causing the problem- will call Steve on Monday to get his insight
5) General interference from all the 2.4 Ghz, 5.0Ghz, etc in society causing signal interruption..

I know that many use the "touch the fob to the chin" method but that is not a permanent fix (not to mention that I feel ridiculous). Has anyone had similar problems with decreased distance? Has anyone found a fix to increase the distance of the OEM Factory Alarm System? Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any advice or other possible troubleshooting steps.

I have the same problem recently with my 2011 GS 350. I believe it’s a signal interference because cell phones in that particular area don’t work well unless you’re outside.

I wonder if yours is just parts getting worn out like a remote control's buttons as was mentioned above. Your GS350 is now 15 yrs old, so a lot younger than our SCs.

Our SC430 is now 22 yrs old and we've not noticed the range our fob works or doesn't. The initial 75 yds the OP mentioned is almost a football field length and I don't think we've tried to unlock or lock our SC from that far away. Usually we do so within a closer range when approaching the vehicle. Next chance I get I'm going to check it out and see how far we can go.

I conducted an experiment and my key fob can lock/open the car door at the distance of 140 feet in open space.

That’s almost 47 yds away and further than we’ve ever tried.

I can’t remember which car it was that we had but I remember unlocking the doors from a distance away but by the time we got to the car the unlock had timed out and it locked itself again. Since then I’ve not had the need to unlock any of our vehicles until we were close enough to reach the car before it could time out and lock itself again.

There’s been no need to unlock it from that far away for us anyway.

Not that we need to unlock the doors from that far but I just want to see how far the key fob can actually can function. There had been complaints that the SC key fob can not lock /unlock the door from 3 feet away.
