Remote Keyless entry issue
Whenever the key fob is around the passenger seat, and I go to turn the "ON" button to start the car, the car is not recognizing that there is a key inside the car.
I thought maybe "key battery" was getting old. I put in two new batteries on both of my remotes.
However, I am still have that issue.
Car door locks/unlocks fine, when proximity key is near.
Any solutions?
Thanks

Is this a new problem? Look in your manual, you can select which part of the cockpit is active with Techstream.
That said I have found 2 things that promote that problem. Close proximity to cell phone (remember the worse your cell signal is, this forces it to raise its Tx power out to maintain contact with cell tower). The second item is the 12v USB charger. If the key is close to it, its EMI emissions interfere with fob contact to its antenna friends in the c@ckpit.
That aside you might clean the battery and fob contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Greasy / salty finger prints can oxidize causing a bad connection. Takes about 3 months.

yes new problem. Started last week after 2 year ownership. Immediately changed all batteries in remote
no USB charger in car
will check the phone issue you mentioned
My 2010 IS started doing that maybe a year ago and I haven't figured it out either. I can pick the fob up, put it down in the same exact spot and the car will start. I don't always have my phone with me and it still has the problem.
Do you know exactly where the sensor for the fob is? If it isn't too hard of a job, I might take it out of the car, pound it on the table a few times and put it back in and see what happens.

I am going to change to OEM battery, instead of AMAZON one today, to see if it fixes it. Will keep you posted

The ones I purchased from Toyota dealer (parts guy installed it for me), works perfectly, with no issues. The one from Amazon worked, but exhibited the same symptoms as previous to the battery change.
