Questions?
Dose the SC430 have a learning computerfor the engine and transmission
like the 99' and newer C5 Corvette? It learns you driving style.
The only SC430 (2002) I have test driven had sloppy shifts (not firm).
Dose this get better?
Is there any problems (discoloring) with the saddle interior like there are with the ecru interiors?
Thanks,

All cars adapt to your driving styles. What exactly you are expecting I dont know. I have noticed in the past, when you red line a car a lot it gets closer and closer. When you are gentle it stays further away from the red line. I am not certain, but the SC has OBD-3??
As far as the tranny. I also have an IS and the comparison between the two trannys is remarkable. It is almost seemless. If you are looking for a jerking shift as found in a manual you will not find it on the SC, the gears seem to overlap one another. I even remember on the older SC, they werent even able to dyno the car due to the tranny dampaning any movement or vibration in the car.

Joe;
My trans is very smooth--unless your right foot gets heavy and then I get very positive shifts.
As for the saddle interior, I have no permanent stains and if I get a dirty spot a little leather cleaner/conditioner cleans it up right away.
Anyway those are my experiences (03 Red/saddle).

Joe,
I am pretty sure most new cars learn your dirivng paterns. You can disconect the battery reset this feature on the ecu. Beat the **** out of it for a few weeks and it will feel fast and shift right

Yes it learns your driving and shifting patterns. You can clear the ECU anytime and start the learning pattern over. I've had it cleared twice, but didn't notice any difference - probably due to the turtle and hare driving we do in Los Angeles. If the car you drove had "sloppy shifts," it was probably due for a chip reset.
No one talks about this, but I think Lexus makes the best automatic transmission available today. The shifts are smooth and predictable both up and down, and you can increase the shift rate by going to Power mode and/or resetting the ECU and driving rapidly for a couple weeks.
Since the car was produced, you are the only one here who has mentioned sloppy shifts. Good chance you were in a car which wasn't shifting normally...
Oh yeah, I have the saddle interior - definitely no discoloring ...like the Ecru.

Hmmm ... I've never heard about a car "learning" your driving patterns, although I do recall the Volvo dealer /mechanic insisting that I beat the hell out of my P1800 when i first got it.
I always manually shift my SC (I really miss having a manual 5-speed) - what effect, if any, would this have on its learning ability?

I manually shift too. A Lexus tech told me the ECU monitors that as well. He said the chip interprets a manual shift as an aggressive action and shortens the shift intervals. Without talking to the programmer to find out just exactly what's being monitored, I'm not sure who to believe. I know a few VT programmers and what gets conveyed from Technical and Marketing departments is often different than what the programmer actually programmed. So flip a coin.
I once had a Saab Turbo that turned into the nearest bar at the first sign of heavy traffic. Thank you! Don't forget to tip your waitresses!

I didn't understand it either, Larry. I also didn't understand the Daily Planet comment as well. I'll have to ask Clark and Lois.

Nah ... Lois and Clark were explorers who discovered the Susquehanna River and founded the towns of Owego, Oswego, Otego, Otsego, Oneonta, Oliphant., and Vestal.
Clark and Lois, on the other hand, became Plastic Man and Wonder Woman when they shouted SHAZZAYAM!
