Default Lexus vs infinity- The Debate Continues

Found this article while waiting for flat repair. Found it interesting. Hopefully the images are legible. Missing pages were adverts. You can download them by right clicking and choosing "save image as." Then zoom in. Interesting read and info on the RCF. Enjoy.

Funny how all my friends that drive Infinitis always want to compare to my Lexus and my Lexus friends. But us Lexus people never look at the Infinitis. At least not my crowds. They are fine cars as well, just different execution.

Haha, I had a couple friends in undergrad with top end cars (BMW, Mercedes S Class, Infinity G35, Toyota MR2, Monte Carlo SS, Nissan Z, etc). One particular friend had the newest BMW 3 series at the time (and she also worked at the local BMW dealership), and she'd always comment that my car was a "Toyota in Prom Dress," and I'd always give her the rebuttal, "You know what else had amazing German Engineering... The Hindenburg."

For a period of 14 years, I've owned 2 BMWs, 4 Mercedes, and 3 Porsches. I was racing PCA till 2004 and a PCA member on going for 22 years. I didn't care for the bimmers because their creaky plasticky interior at that period of time. The mercs, can't keep them out of the dealer from warranty repairs. The Porsches were/are the best built cars period, the quality were higher during their air cooled cars than nowadays but overall very high quality and materials they used. Of the 3 Porsches (1 964 C2, 1 993 C4 and a 951) I had never had ANY problems with them, well, I did have one broken fan belt on my 993 at 2001 after a PCA event.
With all these being said, Lexus, ranks right there with my Porches. They are easier cars to drive daily and as I get older, more comfortable cars.

I own a 2007 SC430 and a 2012 Infiniti FX50S with Sport and Technology packages. Both have about 30K miles on them. The Infiniti is a lot of fun to drive and significantly faster than the SC430 (5.1 vs 5.7 0-60). But that's where the fun ends. The FX50 has been in the shop 7 times for warranty repairs.

Our previous SC400 was sold with 334K miles on it and had never been to a dealer or private shop for any repair in 1/3 of a million miles.

Our SC430 we bought with 11K miles on it and it has been problem free(except if you let it sit for 3 weeks without starting it and the battery might drain too far).

I don't think I'll keep the Infiniti past the drivetrain warranty. I'll probably keep the SC430 for hundreds of thousands of miles because I'm pretty certain it will be problem free for many years to come.

I had a G35 now an ISF, my G35 never had a single issue while stock I added twin turbos and it was a rock solid car. I love my ISF but infinities are also solid cars and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I feel like Lexus and Infiniti are an apples to oranges comparison. Lexus provides the best reliability with more subdued looks and this highest interior quality, while infiniti is higher performance many times, with statistically lower reliability and less interior quality...

I agree. I'll never buy another BMW car (I do have 2 BMW motorcycles but only because I can do the work on them myself). Both the 3 & 7 series were problematic at best and awful at times. I got to the point that I don't care if the problem is covered - I was tired of the inconvenience of having it in the shop so often. I don't know how they're still building 750s after all the horrors.

My Merc E350 will be my last Benz as well. It's another one where the maintenance is just stupidly excessive & expensive. The article was right - Lexus is better than an S class at E class (or lower) prices. Next sedan (if there is one) will be the LS.

I got my SC over an SLK and an SL55 AMG. Sexier looking cars, faster, more aggressive sport handling....but I can't drive like that anywhere (maybe out in Nevada or somewhere) so it really doesn't matter that it takes the Lexus an extra second to go 0-60. I opted for the every day reliability and super comfort of the SC. Didn't even agonize over the decision
