Default Infant seat

Better late than never-we are having a baby next month. Live in NYC and don't use the SC too often and now that we have an addition to the family I need to take the correct safety precautions and get a properly fitting, rear facing seat for the so called rear seat of my 2002 SC-430. I saw threads here that date back nearly 10 years regarding baby seats and would imagine that things have changed since then. Anyone have recent experience or guidance on an infant/baby seat for the rear?
Much thanks in advance.

Hi there, I have the same issue ! Now my baby seat in the back seat is side facing behind the passenger seat . Safety seat belt on also baby love it. He can look at the driver (me or my wife sometime) with extra peace of mind ! Will post the picture of position later .

Well speaking by through personal experience..

I actually had two kids in the car with me...

they were both 4 years old.. one complained about how it was uncomfortable but the other one was perfectly fine...but one of them was in a booster seat...and the other was a baby seat...

the one that complained was in the baby seat... but she was in the passenger side back seat of the sc...yet the babyseat felt unsafe when she was in it...even when i buckled it down..the babyseat didnt feel firm...everyone knows the backseat of our sc430 kinda arches forward..

give or take a 4 year old moves alot...i can see the seat wobble a bit which i didnt think it was safe...her mom sat in the passenger seat she was 5'4" and she had minimal leg room...

well with my experience i had the other 4 year old behind me the driver side...she was in the booster seat and she said she was perfectlly comfortable...she even fell asleep... im 5'5" so i lost a lot of leg room but not enough for me to feel uncomfortable.. i still had wayy more leg room vs the passenger side... if that helps explain anything

if u have some questions feel free to ask...i always thought about keeping my sc forever even when i have kids...but after that experience im not too sure...im sure if i didnt have a passenger in the front it would be perfect to have the baby seat in the car...

I know some states can ticket for improper use of a child seat. I'm not sure if the above example would be permitted. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to fit a car seat properly in the Sc430 since they aren't even permitted in the front seat. :-(

^i agree Shawn... I don't think Texas law allows improper use of the safety seats. Or the front seat...

Thanks for the replies. I'm in NYC and regardless of the law I doubt my wife would let me put the infant seat sideways. Anyone have any reliable and specific recommendations on what has worked. I read another thread where several liked the COMBI.

Default Combi Coccoro

Just spoke with Combi, the dimensions for the Coccoro are 23"(h) x 17"(w) x 19"(d)--EXCEPT in rear facing mode (which is what we need for the newborn, is 28"(d). Only if I move the passenger seat to the most forward position so nobody else could sit up front would this work. I've sent the photo of the side facing seat posted here to a certified child car safety expert who cited bio-mechanical experts who claim this is an extremely unsafe and dangerous position for the seat and, even more, wrote me that crashes remain the leading cause of death and injury to children in the US. We have been to 4 different stores and can't find a rear facing infant seat that would allow all three of us to be in the car. Supposedly the Coccoro is the smallest. Anyone else have other suggestions?
