Default 06 tail light upgrade

Found this online and I was wondering what I would need to up date my tail lights?

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...C430-2009.html

As you can see here all I can see is two parts 81551 and 8156 for the new tails. Is there anything else I would need because 350 is a deal compared to the 450 for my aftermarket tails for my LS

I think that is $350.00 per side. The LED tail light kit for both sides and using the discount Sewell gives Club Lexus members is $575 without the computer and $1,055 with the computer and of course you will need to add shipping cost as well.

I read a thread sometime ago and if memory serve me, it prevents the LED on your instrument cluster from coming on. It also allows a quicker signal response, but I could be wrong. Some members elect not to spend the extra $400 or so buck and just put black tape over the LED light on the instrument cluster. I decided to spend the money and buy the ECU. It's very straight forward to install. Also purchase the chrome amber bulbs on ebay ($10) so you don't see the amber bulb through the clear plastic lens. It adds a nice touch.

Part number 81551 is only for the lower half of the right side tail light. Part number 81561 is for the lower left hand side tail light. You will also need both upper garnishments as well, part numbers 76801E and 76802D.

The link in my post above is for the entire kit, both sides left and right and upper garnishments.

Since the 06+ tail lights are LED's, the wattage is a lot lower than the regular tail lights, and when you swap out the old tail lights with the new LED's, a light on your dashboard will come on indicating you have a burned out bulb somewhere on the car. As far as I know, that's only thing the computer does is tell your ECU or ECM that you do not have a burned out light. You can place a black piece of tape over the light on the dashboard, or if the light on the dashboard doesn't bother you, you can just ignore it.

Has anyone tried load resistors when installing the 06+ tail lights? I heard this is the fix when installing LED"s to avoid a dash error. Could it work for the 06+ tail lights?

I had a similar problem with a motorcycle LED blinker. The easiest fix was to also change the blinker relay for a LED blinker relay. It was a direct swap on the motorcycle but not sure on the SC430 if its a 2pin or 3 pin relay.

I use the Narva relay below.

Lots of conversation on LED Tail upgrade. Search and there will be plenty of info.

This is how I went:

Purchase the package from Sewell (LED Tail Upgrade)
Do the DIY, fairly simple
I took the cluster off and taped the light showing bulb out (there’s a DIY as well)

Done.

FWIW, the LED Tails look and work awesome and takes our cars to the current generation (so to speak). Best Upgrade I have done, so far.

Good luck!

With our discount, I paid ~$700 for what we need. Well worth it. And I have the old set just in case I decide to sell this current SC and upgrade to a newer SC...maybe one day.

The best way to go, full out conversion.

I did the tape way, saved me from tearing the whole rear. Plus saved a few $$.

LSthristy,

The ECU part number is PNC # 82670H. Refer to the attached picture for the actual part number.

The above pricing Darthsid posted does not show our CL discount.

Wow, I did not know that the LED Tail upgrade package is now just $575+shipping.

I paid close to $700 for mine 3 years ago.

Best $575+ship you will spend for the tail upgrade, very classy and more prominent at night. And looking from the rear, you are a 2006+! For $400+ more you get the computer to kill the bulb out indicator, or else just tape it off.
