Default The "Lex Bubble" Goodbye Spyder Hello Lex

Lex Bubble= I heard a rap star call it that because he says it looks like a bubble. lol!

Okay I've been driving around in my 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder now for almost 9 months (24k miles). I like the little car and it's been nothing but fun to drive. Believe it or not, everywhere I go I hear some guy or girl say "that's a really nice car." It makes you wanna smile and say "thanks." Anyway I know the "nice car" comments must come in by the dozens in an SC 430....So I've decided to take the leap and sell my spyder and move up the ladder. Can't get enough convertible driving in Southern Cali.

So now my question is which color I should order: I've been leaning towards red with black leather black leather only because the ecru seems to be such a challenge to keep clean and I am very picky about things like that. Is red that hard a color to keep clean over the gold/white ro silver?

That ecru on red looks killer but after reading all the posts here, I guess I'll go with black leather. I have tan leather in my Spyder and it gets dirty (a lot of black dust/dirt). In my spyder, the back seats get a lot of dust/dirt build up and I'm thinking it's from all the top down driving I do. Has this been a problem in your SC?

I had black leather in my last Mitsubishi and never had problems keeping it clean so I figure I can't go wrong with that in the Lex.

Okay so I'm probably going to go with red/ex black/int. To make up for the lack of killer style of that ecru on red, I'm thinking I will look into having red leather inserted to create a two tone interior. Has anyone seen this in an SC yet? I know AMG Benz models have done this and it really looks sharp.

Okay one more thing here: I've heard people getting a fully loaded SC 430 down to 58,000? If so I'm thinking I'll just email or fax all the dealers here in southern Cali and see who bites?

Also has anyone here installed that Blitz front grill? I’m going to order one with out a doubt. Sorry for the long post. I’m just a bit excited that I’ve chosen which new car to purchase. Runners up: 2003 Benz E500 Sedan, used 2000-2001 Benz CL 500 coupe, 2003 Lexus LX 470 or GX 470.

Congrats on your decision. I've never heard of the SC430 referred to as a bubble, but I have heard its appearance likened to a tuber.

When it comes to choosing a color for a car, it always comes down to a matter of personal taste and opinion as has been discussed in this forum so many times. Personally, I would *never* again own a red sporty-looking car. In the 48 years I've been driving, I've been awarded 5 speeding tickets, four of which were bestowed on me during the five years I was driving a red Volvo P1800 (with black leather, by the way). I was driving 10 to 12 miles an hour over the limit each time. And this was in the late 60's when many cops would let you go with a warning if you were drunk!

There's no color sexier than black and the SC430 in black looks terrific - when it's clean. If keeping a car clean is no problem, then any of the dark colors are great choices for the SC. Personally, I prefer silver which, to at least one person here, means that I didn't know what color to select. It looks good when it's dirty and terrific when it's clean, but it's never sexy. It doesn't show the swirls, sworls, whirls, and whorls that are so obvious on darker color cars unless you're super-meticulous about maintaining the exterior.

As far as getting the eyeball from admiring onlookers, it just don't make no never mind what color you get - they all get stares.

Default Exterior/Interior Colors

CaliKid-

I agree with 1NICESC430 on Silver. It is by far the easiest to keep clean. The only thing I don't agree on is that it's not sexy. IMO, silver and black are the two sexiest colors this car comes in. I haven't installed the Blitz grill, but I have installed AutoCouture Front and Rear Lip Spoilers (Check out Picture Gallery under DSeag2).

Re: interior color... I know Saddle isn't everyone's taste, but I love mine. So do most people who ride in the car. Best of all, it holds up well and shows no dirt/dust.

Re: compliments... you're right. You'll get dozens! At least once a week I have someone tell me how great the car is. My friend's wife said its like "the big -O- on wheels". Whatever, color you choose, just be ready to clean the noseprints off the side windows!

Thanks for the input guys! "The big -O- on wheels" LOL! I've learned that when you choose a car like the SC which looks like no other car on the road, you end up with people who either love it or hate it. When I see a Porsche boxster, 911 or most Benz roll by, it's like nice car but when you see an SC 430 roll by it's different and gets yoru attention.

Since I'm a person who loves attention (future filmmaker) I think I'm going to go with the red and black leather. I'm also going to go for adding red leather at some shop. Now If I can just hurry up and get a red SC before I see a blue or another color and change my mind again. The car does look good in every color.

dseag2: I've seen your pic's and it looks very nice. I'm wondering if the lip is flush with the rest of the car or does it sit a bit lower than the sides and rear?

Default Flush

Actually, CaliKid, the front is flush with the sides and rear. It looks a bit lower in the picture because the car is facing front down on a sloping driveway.

All I can say is, even Lexus' body shop that installed the parts said the front and rear spoilers integrate perfectly with the side rocker panels. The pieces fit so well that sometimes I forget it didn't come that way. It's a very subtle enhancement that adds a lot to the car and actually diminishes some of the "bubble" effect! The only downside is that you can't take any chances that the front spoiler is going to clear parking lot bumps. Although it does clear most, I never pull in all the way anymore.

FYI, there are other shots of these spoilers on GeneArch's Black SC430 in the Photo Gallery. He also has AutoCouture wheels (to die for), but surprisingly the ground effects go well with the stock pie plates as well.

Hmmm, so the SC is the Lex-bubble? I know the GS is the "bubble eye" lexus and the LS or SC 430 is the "frog eye" Lexus.
