Dear friends. I recently almost clipped a bike in my blind spot on TWO separate occasions, I believe I need to invest on a backup camera but I don't even know where to start. I have read the threads about Naviks, but the installation seems tedious. I have also seen some cameras on amazon and eBay, but I don't know how to choose. Please comment and suggestions are very much appreciated!

They have retrofit kits for just about everything. I bought a backup camera for my 2002 SC430 and have talked to them about how to install it. I recently bought a Kenwood double din radio that has the inputs and screen for it with a kit that will allow me switch the camera display up to the nav screen. Amazing stuff is available to upgrade your car to the latest technology.

I am currently looking for installation videos to help me get the camera installed as well as to remove the nav display, so if anyone reading these can help direct me, I would appreciate it.

 

You can run the video to your navigation screen with a Nav Tool. I'd assume it's compatible with any backup camera. But you might want to check with them first.

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable installing it either. Lexus can install it, but they'll probably be expensive. Other than that, any stereo installation shop can probably do it. I'd find a good one that's going to be careful and won't scratch up your interior.

I got the inexpensive one from Pyle PLCM 7200 ($62.00 from Walmart. It is not bad; You have to attach the screen o ver your rear view mirror . The instructions are worthless but just remember the screen needs power and the camera does too. If you tap into the backup lights for power for the camera it works pretty good.

 

I haven't done this yet but have read many posts. When I get around to it I plan to do the NavTool because it is the only one that cleanly integrates with the OEM nav screen. Safety of course is important and there are a lot of cheaper options with an external screen - Advanced Autoparts have one that's not too much.

On the highway I was having a problem with the passenger side blind spot so I installed a little round convex mirror on the lower rt corner of the mirror.
