new tires
After 15000 miles, my SC430 needs new tires. I'm disappointed in the ride, and it may be due to the bushing problem I've read about on these pages, but need advice on the new tires. Have others given up on the runflats? Any suggestions for good performace? Thanks NEIL
I went by to see my Lexus service Director, with whom I have established a great relationship. Told him that I am close to a decision on new tires (got 18,500 now, and they still look decent). He told me to hold up any decision until the first week of January......by then he'll have several options to give me..including a new, name-brand run-flat that can be repaired, and is a "softer" ride then my current original Bridgestones....also, conventionals, with a much less expensive trunk/spare assembly.....we're talking Michelins.........I'll post info when I get it.
I talked to Bridgestone Tech folks yesterday....
They do have a 'new' run-flat tire in distribution. They say that because of 'revised compounds', it will give a softer ride....but, like the originals, it is not repairable.
The Article number of the new ones is :#149940 (the # of the Bridgestones you're riding on now is #103721.)
Tech phone number is : 1-800-356-4644. (Some little town in Texas that I have never heard of. I asked where it was in relation to Dallas...she said she didn't know)......hummmmmm!!!

I bit the bullet, and went with non-run flats. I got Michelin pilot Sports, and along with the new rear bushings my SC 430 has a better ride. I just hope I don't get a flat. NEIL
Notwithstanding the new "softer" Bridgestone RF....since it is still unrepairable..I've decided to go the Non RF Michelin Pilot Sport A/S route.....My dealer is going to buy them for me at Discount Tires, and he'll have them brought to Lexus for mounting and installation...He is also going to knock of 50% of the cost of the trunk spare/assembly....and combine all in one bill.....this sounded like an "offer I can't refuse".
Yeah, those tires weren't working out for me either. after a few months i got these buldges on the side, looked like bubbles, when to the dealer twice and finally they changed it for me free of charge. maybe i am too aggressive on the turns. But i got rid of them recently for some new rims, took me a while to decide to make the change, but i am VERY/SUPER happy with my new rims. they are 20 inch Lowenhearts. Not chrome, only on the lip, its machine silver. I never slide when i made hard turns anymore and i just feel the ground much more, makes the drive real sporty and fun. I'll post some pictures later.

Why o why did I stay with those &$*#^$* Bridgestone RF for 21,000 miles?? Now, 200 miles on my new Michelin Sport Pilots...and its like I'm driving a new car. Nite/day difference. The ride and handling are 1000% better. No noise, and no more strange rattles/squeaks within the car. Highly recommend everyone go this route.......Spare/trunk assembly no big deal..looks good with spare tire cover.
