Default random cold start rpm question.

In my other cars, when the cars are cold the rpm's start a little higher, and after probably 20 seconds or so.. it drops down... goes from about 1200 to maybe 700. I noticed in my SC, that there is virtually no change. It starts at its normal operating temp. Just curious why that is. Any input would be awesome.

Thanks!

Mine starts at higher speed and then lowers as the car warms up. It may have to with the actual temp. The old cars had chokes the newer cars I think are programed via the ECU as well as the maf air sensor.

Hmm, weird. I mean, when i drive I can feel the car isn't warmed up.. obviously. But the cold start, rpm starts where it would be when warm as well.

Mine is a 2005 like yours. When it starts it runs faster and then will settle down after a while. Its allways been that way.

Runs faster, you mean the RPM is running higher right?

So strange. Mine definitely doesn't. Now I am gonna measure it in millimeters. haha

Thanks for letting me know what your SC is doing though.

Mine starts at circa 1500 and drops down to 700 after warmed up. You'll notice it depends if your in Park or Drive though, clearly the ECU is making assumptions and trying to get it warmed up.

Coolant temperature and vacuum is sensed and ECU is programmed to inject more fuel/less air (richer) when the data map onto a 'cold start'. Failure to start with higher RPMs under true cold start (cold ambient temps, cold coolant) could reflect a coolant temp sensor that is failing, or a slight vacuum leak (for example, at the PCV piping, etc), among other things.

8Mile, I love you and appreciate that so much. I am going to check at every interval like you did for me, and report back.

I was thinking that in cold/park that it would eventually drop. But I guess I need to move and such. Will check!

Thanks again 8Mile!

Tensi nice to be able to straighten your question mark.

It takes about 5 minutes before it has normal idling speed (my Sc).
