Question Any Problems Switching to Synthetic Blend Oil?

Back for yet another tedious questions for you Lexus buffs!

My recently acquired 2002 SC 430 with 75K miles is due for an oil change. I've looked up the maintenance history history on the Lexus.com web site, but the previous owner went to her own mechanic (unknown) long ago.

I ran synthetic blend oil in my 2005 ES 330, and would like to use in in my SC. Question: Any problem doing this if the prior owner used a regular blend oil? If its OK, about how many miles should I expect to get between changes? Also, is there any difference in the way the oil service light is reset to reflect the expected change, or will the highly sophisticated on-board computer somehow magically adjust?

Thanks in advance to the help I know is on the way..this forum is terrific!

Mike

I switched over to a full synthetic blend last year, after using a regular blend for 3 years...so far,so good !!! Alot of the guys have switched over and I don't think anyone has had a problem. I was changing the oil in my 02' @ 3500 mls, now I'm doing it @ 5000 mls. Most of the full synthetics state that you can go up to 7500 mls before changing, some even more than that. On the oil service light,do you mean the " info maintenance reminder" that you can set,on the nav screen?...if so, it will come on when it reaches whatever interval (time/mileage) that you program it for...hope this helps

The "advanced search" feature is a great tool for finding information which has been thoroughly discussed in the past. That way there's no need to wait for someone to respond. For example, this is one thread from a search for the word "synthetic" limited to the SC430 forum only. (advanced search lets you tailor your searches) Search for the word "synthetic" in the SC430 forum. You'll find the search and Advanced Search tools in the menu bar near the top of the page.

Just stick to the recommended viscosity and change intervals and you will be fine. Whether its synthetic or not isn't really the issue. You shouldn't have any issue changing.
