Default Hail Damage!

Mother nature took her wrath out on my sc and every other car within a five mile radius when a thunder storm came out of no where. Before I could get to the car to move it, golf ball-size hail started to fall. After the storm stopped about fifteen minutes later, I went out to check the damage. My sc was left with a cracked windshield and roughly 70 dents, ranging from acorn size to golf ball size.

I went to a collision center today to get an estimant to repair the damage and was quoted with $5400! Here are some quick snapshots after the storm:

Yikes...the OEM windshield is $1400 alone. Aftermarket ones are inferior, and aftermarket installer rarely know how to correctly install the SC glass and integrated antenna. As others have mentioned...good luck with your claim!

That's a shame! Hope you can find a good body shop. Weather has been crazy this year.

Hopefully insurance will treat me well. I have full coverage so I'm wishing for the best. The body shop that I got the quote from has been voted the best in town for a few years in a row and that's where the local lexus dealer recommend that i go. I'll keep you guys posted with any new information I find out!

That is some crazy looking hail. I'm sorry to hear about your car. I once saw an RX330 at the dealership that looked like a golf ball because of all the hail damage. There was not an inch of the car without a dent. Every window was shattered; not cracked, shattered! Needless to say it was totaled. But boy was that thing scary looking.

Man, I feel you pain..... I'd be crushed so to speak. Let us know how you do. I have never seen hail that size growing up in the north east. I've seen hail but the biggest is about the size of pencil erasers......
Good Luck.....

How are the other body parts? If it's only the hood, it will easy to replace, not repair. But if there is damage on every body panel, then ???????

There is damage on every body panel of the car is equivalent to what you see on the hood. The wind was blowing so hard that the hail was being blown right into the side of the car before it could reach the ground.

I haven't heard back from the insurance company yet since they have been swamped with claims from the storm damage. I do have full coverage, however, so I'm just hoping the deductible won't be outrageous.

Has anyone dealt with an insurance claim lately? After I received the quote from the body shop yesterday, the guy who gave me the estimant told me that the insurance company will probably only offer me about half of what I was quoted and that I should accept that amount, take it to the body shop, and they will be able to make the insurance company cover the rest of the bill when they're finished with the work. He said the reason that I should do this is because insurance companies cannot, by law, make you go to a certain shop to get your car repaired. This sounded kind of odd to me. Is this accurate information? The body shop is very requitable and I can't imagine that they would risk their reputation to cheat me out for a few thousand bucks.

Check out this PDF for the insurance rules for your state: Rules for collision repairs - State by State I think your guy gave a partially correct answer.
