Headlight removal
My 02 sc430 left headlight needs a marker light changed. I'm a pretty good mechanic but do not have a service manual for this vehicle. They were one 10mm on top also with a plastic screw but didn't do too much looking around but seems there must be some other bolts holding the headlights in. One post said he removed the bumper but this seems a little overkill. Does someone have the correct procedure for this. Ted from Seattle
Marker light? If you are replacing the DRL or low beam bulbs you can reach in and replace those. For high beam, parking light, turn signal or side marker bulbs it's easier to remove or drop the bumper. If you drop the bumper, I recommend replacing all your bulbs at the same time so you don't have to do iit again for many years.
I just finished replacing my low beam light bulb on a 2002...there is no way someone can change the light bulbs, high, low or marker without removing the headlight from the car! maybe if you are gumby. I searched "DIY HID bulb replacement" and was able to find the easy way to loosen the bumper (with pictures) one side first so I did not need to remove the complete bumper to unscrew the one nut plus 2 screws holding the headlight assembly. It took me about 1hr per side because I took my time in order not to scratch my paint or the headlight lense. I have seen other postings saying to pull the wheel shroud to get to the light bulbs...no way. A word of advise, read all of the posts under "DIY HID bulb replacement" and study the pictures well. good luck.
The easiest and the right way to replace the bulbs is through the bumper removal, plus the fender liner.
I am planning on getting my side marker lights installed and my 1st try would be to access the signal light tap through the fender liner.
