Default Replacing Run-flats...with?

Hey all,

I probably have at least 10,000 miles left on my RFTs, so this may be still early, but what should I replace these horrible tires with? Should I go to the dealership and have them replace it for me, or should I shop online? I see some tires for $167 each at sears.com and other places...are these worth it for the SC? I like a comfortable ride and at the same time spend as little as I can. Thanks for the help.

Hi ray,

I can only give you my thoughts.

1. Get rid of the RFTs; they are a idea that just did not pan out.

2. If you were to search everything on this site as to what tires, I think you would find most people have gone with Michelin Pilots A/S.

3. Re: at the same time spend as little as I can.

When I bought my SC I knew that 'things' for it would cost more than 'things' for my pickup. Just my opinion.

And if you think the Michelins are expensive, just price new RFT's from your dealer.

Good luck,

Jerry Baumchen

There are a ton of threads about this subject. Give the old search a try.

My 2 cents: I replaced mine with Continental Extremes and really like them.

Been thinking about replacing my RFTs with regular too and like you, I have about 10K left on my Pirelli RFTs - I like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S cos I have them on my RL but I won't want to spend that much. So for all seasons, considering Conti DWS and Hankook V4 Ventus. For summer tires, thinking Hankook V12 Ventus and Nitto Invo. Nittos only work price wise when on special.

From my own experience, I would avoid the Bridgestone Potenza's. They develop flat spots in cool and cold weather. Turns the SC into a Fred Flintstone car for about 5 miles before they beat themselves round again. Also very difficult to get balanced. My next tires will be the Michelin Pilot Sport's.

The Yokohama YK520s are a good economical choice and come with a 50kmi (or is it 60kmi) warranty. I've only had them for about 4kmi so far but like them. (I had the Pirelli Pzero Nero RF previously also.)

I just replaced mine with Nexen 3000, and it's like night and day. She sometimes forgets she is in the SC, it rides so nice.

Michelin Pilots A/S ! RFT's provided the worst ride I ever had! Good luck with your selection!

Do you mean extremes or extreme DWS? I have the DWS and have been very satisfied. I'm not sure why they still make the extreme now. The DWS is a better tire at a lower price.

I went to the Lexus dealership today and told him that many people online did not like their RFTs...and his response?

"Don't listen to those morons! They don't know what they're talking about!!" - hahaha, oh boy.....

You must, at least, look at the Continental DWS. Daughter has them on her Acura RSX. Great tire at a great price.

Hi Ray,

I bought my first motor vehicle in 1954.

The idiots at the dealerships have not changed in all of those years.

By chance did you ask him what he had on his personal car?

Jerry Baumchen

PS) A little triva: What is the first question a salesman at a dealership will ask you? 'What color are you wanting?'

haha....I didn't care too much for his response...although he is right about not having a spare if I didn't go with the regular tires. I have to say the dealership is very nice though despite the Service Department's view,
