Hi tfischer,

Re: or to the "Snow" position

I'll take a look when I get my car back; it is off for interior detailing right now.

One other little event ( but not really related to 'snow' ) was that when I got home ( after putting ~2800 miles on her & being gone for nearly two weeks ), as I was getting everything out of the car, I inadvertently left the passenger side door ajar ( or maybe I didn't, which I think is what really happened; see below ).

This drained the battery all the way down ( she was completely dead ); so off to Sears for a new DieHard.

After getting the new battery in, I still had the 'open door' signal on the guage cluster; I could not get it to go away.

As I was driving the car over to the detailers & he drove me back home, the 'open door' signal went away. We figured that is just needed to be activated a few times to clean the contacts.

I'm thinking that the contacts got corroded/something on the passenger side as that door almost never gets opened.

I simply did not go back into the driver's side to notice the 'open door' signal on the dash after I emptied the car.

Well, at least I now have a new battery.

Sounds to me like you don't have a contact problem, you have a passenger deficit...

My guess at what the "Snow" mode did is that it essentially caused it to start in 2nd gear, which is the sort of thing that I would do when I had a manual transmission and was dealing with snowy/icy conditions. But I figured that it was probably a bit more sophisticated than that.
.

The snow mode kinda works like what you are thinking, but in auto, all the gears has to go in order and you can't skip it. Snow mode gives you a lesser response. So that means you accelerate alot slower; therefore you won't slide or skid when you launch off from a complete stop. It kinda works like second gear, launching super slow but it from first gear instead

ScottR, I believe with a good set of snow tires, the salt in your trunk and your car in "snow" mode, you'll be okay next winter.

I believe snow tires makes a world of a difference. Look at this previous but similar post on the same subject matter. OH, and I use snow feature in my car as well!

It sounds like moving down in size to a 16" snow tire may also be advantageous. For those of you who use snow tires, what size are you using?

Got a set of 16 inch wheels with old Blizzak LM25s, I think they're 225 series tires. The SC does not look very pretty sitting on 16s but the Blizzaks are reassuring in snow.
