Greetings everyone
Boy am I missing my SC430 - in storage for the winter... We've had a few warmer days and I think that made it worse but tomorrow we are supposed to get snow! I envy you southern folks who don't have to deal with the salt zone here in the midwest!
Must be tough having to put it away for the winter. Living here in Hawaii, I take for granted being able to drive with the top down all year long. Think of it this way, when it's time to bring it back out, it's like having a new car every year! Sometimes I feel that way just when I come back from a week long trip of driving rental cars.
ceboyd ...
I know how you feel. I cancelled my liability insurance, took off the plates, and put mine away, too. But early winter this year in upstate New York was extremely mild - I could have driven the car for another three weeks!
Next year, I will maintain my registration and insurance throughout the winter and drive the car whenever the weather permits.
BTW ... I put a thick plastic liner underneath the car to prevent moisture rising from the new concrete garage floor, covered the car with a perfectly-made cover from Heaven For Cars, and hooked up a Battery Tender. All these items were recommended by participants of this forum.
This place is a great source of information.

Hey be careful of the tires, you're really supposed to get the tires of the ground, sitting for 5-6 months will damage them. The first year they should be fine but in a year or two you could have problems. I dont know if they are off the ground, but just trying to help.
Thanks for the concern - I appreciate it.
Y'know, I've heard different theories on that topic. One is that it's worse for a suspension to be jacked up and hanging than it is for tires to sit on concrete.
I heard that the tires should be on four pieces of wood or that the car should be moved occasionally to avoid the square tire syndrome. My friend parks her Porsche on carpet pads. My dealer had no concerns about this problem at all.
Come spring, we shall find out what effect the concrete floor had on my tires and I'll stop scratching my head wondering what might happen to them. If worse comes to worse, I'll just replace them with regular tires and stick a couple of cans of Fix-A-Flat (or whatever that stuff is called) in the trunk.
Today was another nice day I could have driven the car.
One way to ensure that the weather will turn really bad is to reinstate my insurance and get plates.
