Default Replacement Key Compatibility?

My girlfriend lost one of the master keys for her 2003 SC430. I purchased a new blank on ebay and have a left over key from my RX330. Can the RX330 transponder be programmed for the SC? The buttons for the RX have a PWR Door text instead of car/trunk open symbol.

I think they all use the same transponder chip, so yes could be programmed. Regarding the power door-trunk, do not know.

Did you get thenkey cut? Where did you bring it to?

I have an SC key coming from ebay too.

I believe that the SC and RX transponders are not interchangeable because of the different functionalities.

I do however know that the other sedans ES, GS, LS and others at one time were with the SC because I had bought some as spares and used them myself.

Cheapest way to do it all is a 3 or 4 step process...

Buy the blank new key on eBay... $10-$15 uncut

Get the transponder separately or use old one from your SC...

(I always put a new, fresh battery in at this point...Home Depot $4.00)

Have key cut at either Lexus (quicker and easier) or search and search for local locksmith that can do it...

If you pay for Lexus $$$$ to do it, see if you can ask them to "throw in" the programming for the key cut price (I did and they hooked me up) if not, do a search on this forum on how to program the key and follow the 18 step process to do it...it's fairly easy put on your patience hat!

The cheapest you can do it for is about $55-$60 with a cheap locksmith cutting it, but a lot of people pay $100 and up if they have to have Lexus cut it, and of course depending on if they have to buy transponders or not.

Here are some good buys on eBay:

****I would use this vendor if I needed a key today...very good deal...just need the transponder now****

***Here is one with the transponder for $79 that just needs to be cut and programmed***

Here's a used transponder you can buy and use the guts if you don't have one for $60:

I'm sure there are transmitters/transponders that you can buy from CL vendors like Carson Toyota and Sewell, I did a quick search and couldn't find it, but if you want to pay more than a used one for a new one, then you can go there.

Hope this helps

Great help. Sewell sells them at a discount for CL members.
