The only problem is I cannot decipher based on #'s 12-17 of my VIN which # my car is of 600 Pebble Beach in 2005.

According to my sticker, VIN decoder, etc, my car was the 61,937 vehicle that rolled through the Japan factory and # 399/600 in the series.

Very interesting.

Huy-what's your three digit after the VIN sticker again on the door?

965... Come on early build!!!

I also sent you my VIN number to your PM, Derek.

If I did it right, my car is the 20,469 out of the plant. Wohoo!!!

Considering how hard it is to figure out, if you're a PB owner, maybe you should just tell everyone that your car was the very LAST one built of the PB edition for the respective year, and then someone will have to PROVE you wrong.....which, of course, they won't be able to! Then, if you sell, you can figure in a $3,000 upcharge for having the honor of being the "last one built."

HMMMMMM doesn't make sense for the 3-digit number under the VIN sticker. It could for me, but not for Huy. I'm 399, which could mean 399/600 PB's or 399 of 8,941 total SC430's produced that year. Not sure.

There definitely were not 965 SC's produced in 2009, so if Huy was an "early build" his car would have been built in late 2008 as an early build. LOL, not like it matters, right?

I think i am close in decoding this.. I gather these vins from yahoo So looks like all PBs are made before the custom ones. So all we need to figure out is now they number this. In 2006 the transmission changed to speed and lexus decided to restarted the serial number. In 2007 we added the extra knee air bags.

17 digits total
--------------
1 = Manufacturing Country (J = Japan)
2 = Manufacturer (T = Toyota)
3 = Type of Vehicle ( H = Passenger Vehicle)
4 = Body Type ( F = 2 Door Conv. 2WD)
5 = Engine Code (N = 3UZ-FE)
6 = Series/Grade (4 = UZZ40L (SC430))
7 = ?? 8 or 5
8 = ?? Y is consistent
9 = ?? varies
10 = Model Year (2 = 2002)
11 = Restraint System (0 = Manual Belts w/2 Air Bags, Side Air Bags and Curtain for Front and Rear Seats)
12-17 (serial number)

gentouru-I moved to a new post...I believe the three digit number under the VIN tells you what number SC430 you are.

Since this was such a good fact-finding mission for everyone that we all need to know, I started a new thread.

I believe that my car is the 399th SC430 to be produced for 2005, but was actually made in August 2004. In 2005, they sold 8941 SC430's and were in the sequence of 60,000 cars for the series...which also includes the GS, SC300/400 from previous years according to the chart.
