Default 3rd time this month! G37 rant

For the 3rd time this month I had someone ask me if my SC430 was a G37... Is it me or does this happen to you too? On top of that this time it was a total stranger! I was at work parking garage and this guy walking to or from his car came up and said "I love these new G37 convertibles they have such nice lines". This is while he was looking right at my SC AND the Lexus badge....We talked for a bit and I corrected him that it was a Lexus SC430 and he didnt even bat an eye, like in his eyes it was still a G37. The other time was when I was putting the top down and the guy who parked next to me said "That infiniti hardtop convertible thing is pretty trick". Do people not know or is it because the SC430 is not a well known car and the G37 is?

TBH, they look a bit similar. It doesn't to us b/c we know every curve on our cars. It hasn't happened to me but I could see how someone would be confused. It sucks because our cars are MUCH more expensive and way better than the G37, but at least they're not asking if our cars are the new VW Beetles right? haha

This reminds me of my knucklehead friend back in the mid 90's when I got my SC400 and he tried to tell me that the Ford Escort ZX2 coupe was the mini version of my SC and I had an Escort-Lexus! LOL To some people they are really simplistic in car-thinking.

I have driven the G37 convertible several times and I think it is the CLOSEST competitor to the SC, and I've said it many times. I think they took a look at the market leader in the hardtop four seater convertible and made a nice, updated version of it. Copycat? No, I don't think so. The G37 is a completely different animal. Especially handling, throttle response, sound system, ride, etc etc.

Strange that you've had three different people ask you that about the SC, though.

Hi scdroptop,

"Strange that you've had three different people ask you that about the SC, though. "

I don't think so; there is a storage yard for Infiniti near where I go for my morning coffee & paper. I cannot help but notice that there is a fair amount of similarity, IMO.

The reality is that we are car people and the average joe is not.

I think once for me, they said a G35 or something which made me kind of furious.

you evidently live in a area where the SC430 isn't well known or seen around there often.

that's why people keep mistaking it for the G.

Lot's of comments on the SC, but not that one yet.

My daily driver is a VW Phaeton, now that is a car everyone (except for a few folks really) thinks is a Jetta or Passat.

I have fun with it though. Whenever I'm asked what I drive, my answer is "a VW".
