I know it's an old post, but would like to see how this turned out. Or, is anyone else has attempted anything similar or even has installed CFL "Halo Eye" rings or projector shrouds in a pre2006 model. I'm in the market up upgrade my 9005 LEDs to either a better LED or HID. But in terms of the 9005, I want to keep the DRL function. Has anyone tried any HID that retains the DRL and High Beam functions OR an LED that runs as a DRL and also allows projection for increased visibility in High Beam Mode? Thanks.

I was thinking of buying a LED high beam kit but there have been a few posts here and elsewhere which say:
-LED's have crap beam patterns b/c they're not the same shape and have hot spots/no relector
-LED's cannot dim the DRL operation, so you're effectively running with a wiring harness just to have it be a daytime HIGH BEAM!!
-LED's take a lot more room up, are illegal in direct bulb replacements

Oh, you said HID headlights? Never mind!
(there is NO HID on or coming to market which would allow you to flash to pass, get instant on or nearly instant light...or, if your state has a equipment standard, it would undoubtedly fail uniless you have a bi-xenon kit (and money to burn to set that one up).
Good luck
