LOL. My sense is this a mostly "guys" forum, so I'm sure the answer is no.

Although I am still too lazy to open the manual, I have determined that my nav is working perfectly, and whatever I change on it, the car icon keeps blinking.
I even called the dealer ("bring it in").
My conclusion: normal for 2002 gen 2/3 ver. 3.1.....

I will, however, ask my wife to check the manual.

Well, I have a 2002 and I recently upgraded to the 2008 Navigation DVD. Mine blinks.

Hey, I upgraded too.

Theory: upgrading the nav = blinking nav icon.

update, was at dealer service, and he said older models blink, and newer ones don't.
By the way, no mention in manual.
Those with 02 and 03 that don't blink: is it a new nav you have?

And my 2002 with the new 2008 DVD does not blink....

(Got the new DVD when I bought the car last year.)

Wild guess: poor reception and the icon blinks?

I had a Camry with a navigation system that is the small sibling of the Lexus one. Many functions are the same etc (but the Lexus has a ton more features of course). But one thing the Camry had was a status screen which displayed the number of satellites it had a lock on. (2-3 is a minimum and 8 was the maximum I got (in Europe).

My Sc is an 06 with the original 5.1 Nav disc it came with, will upgrading to the most recent disc only upgrade the streets or are some other things upgraded such as graphics and or functions?

I just upgraded from 5.1 to 8.1 and if I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't do it. It cost $250 (regular price is $299), and aside from a few new roads/highways showing up, there's no discernible difference at all. I would probably wait for the 9.1 version (due out in October, I believe) if I had it to do over again.

There's a toll road in my area that's been open for over a year and it still doesn't show up on my 8.1 disk. So even though I have the most recent disk, it's never really possible to be completely up to date.

I previously had a 2008 SC430 but this weekend I had the opportunity to purchase a 2002 SC430 with 22,952 miles and jumped on it. I never noticed the location icon blinking on my 2008 but it is constantly blinking on the 2002. I have read the navigation manual from cover to cover and can't find anything that tells me if it can be stopped or its just part of that generation navigation system? If anyone knows please post.
